Democrats Fear Backlash at Polls for Antiwar Remarks
The Washington Post ^ | December 7, 2005 | Jim VandeHei and Shalaigh Murray

Posted on 12/07/2005 6:39:28 AM PST by katieanna

Strong antiwar comments in recent days by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean have opened anew a party rift over Iraq, with some lawmakers warning that the leaders' rhetorical blasts could harm efforts to win control of Congress next year. Several Democrats joined President Bush yesterday in rebuking Dean's declaration to a San Antonio radio station Monday that "the idea that we're going to win the war in Iraq is an idea which is just plain wrong." The critics said that comment could reinforce popular perceptions that the party is weak on military matters and divert attention from the president's growing political problems on the war and other issues. "Dean's take on Iraq makes even less sense than the scream in Iowa: Both are uninformed and unhelpful," said Rep. Jim Marshall (D-Ga.), recalling Dean's famous election-night roar after stumbling in Iowa during his 2004 presidential bid.

You almost get the sense that the Democrats would cheer wildly if another 9/11 type event happened; Anything that would bolster their chances next November.

It remains to be seen whether the Donks' traitorous conduct will trump the GOP's incompetence.

That would be nice, but the sheeple have a short memory and the Demoncrats know it.

American "troops" did, in fact, knock down a door in the middle of the night and terrorized a child. It happened almost six years ago. Does anybody remember? A Democrat was in the White House, and the "Commander in Chief" of these particular "troops" was a female Democrat. The date was April 22, 2000. The terrorized child was Elian Gonzalez.

Other than Zell Miller and Lieberman who would be in the party? The Democrats are self destructing. Its a beautiful thing to watch.

"Kerry's remarks calling American troops terrorists are even worse."

Which is probably why the WP did not mention the remarks! I don't think those remarks have been mentioned in any of the LSM.

What did Colmes say last night? I was otherwise engaged and missed the show.

Both Howard Dean and John Kerry need to be sent thank-you letters and need to be encouraged to speak out more often.

Yes...Self destructing is nice to watch. But imagine if say Lieberman, Nelson, (who is the other Moderate?) and a handful
of Congressional and state level Dems broke off...The Democrats wouldnt recover. A "Center-Left" party would destroy the Democrats.

Colmes was defending Kerry's remarks calling American troops "terrorists who terrorize women and children in the middle of the night."

Its a beautiful thing to watch.

There's nothing beautiful about it. I hate the fact that we have to question the loyalty to this country of one of our major political parties. That is not good for the country. At least there was a time when we disagreed with the Democrats on domestic policy, at least politics stopped at the water's edge. That all changed with Vietnam, and it's gotten worse since.

I really, really like Howard Dean.

:-) Yeah, but Sean Hannity said what I was thinking yesterday. It's nice from a selfish, political perspective to watch this jerk inflict harm on the liberal movement and Dem party. But it's also very harmful to our country and especially harmful for our deployed troops and their families to listen to his filth.

I agree with Sean Hannity. Howard Dean needs to resign. (No, I don't expect he will, but he should.)

Boy, you got that exactly right! These Democrats have a "heads I win/tails you lose" approach going on where it doesn't matter what successes are achieved because they will just say it wasn't the goal in the first place and, besides, "What about (fill in the blank)?".

The only sensible approach for Bush to take is to tear their heads off in every speech and public appearance and not to take their phone calls.

Dear Mr. Kerry

Thank you for putting our troops in their place. You are galvinzing the base, the conservative base that is. Keep it at! You and Mr. Dean are the best thing to happen to the party since the 80's!

It is very satisfying to mute Alan Colmes when he speaks. Then you just see his lips flapping and YOU can talk back to him.
