One thing I find ironic, is that when a bill or amendment that is a "tough sell" comes up in the House or Senate...the politicians will sometimes through the media, gripe that President Bush, Cheney, Condi, or Rummy didn't "come down to Capitol Hill and push for it"...

IOW---they expect the White House to lobby in their behalf, but where are they, when the White House needs them?

Lugar can thank President Bush for is Committee Chairmanship, it was his hard work that got the Majority back after that senile old Goat turncoat Jumpin Jim Jeffords put the Pubbies in the Minority. He needs to stop acting like he is senile and a lackey for the Dems, or move over and retire. He wanted that leadership job so bad, I am wondering when he is going to lead? I believe half of his problem is that he may feel that if he says something too positive for the Pubbies against the Dems that they will not invite him back. He is probably right, but he is gutless and not a team player if he chooses his ego over our Security and The lives of our Military.

Even with low ratings, millions if not tens of millions of US citizens watch those shows.

Nope. Try again?

The Sunday Shows

Another franchise of network news that deserves note is the Sunday morning talk show. In recent years, "Meet the Press" on NBC, whose host is Tim Russert, has established itself as the dominant ratings leader. At the end of the 2002-2003 season, it led its nearest competitor, CBS's "Face the Nation," with its host, Bob Schieffer, by 1.8 million viewers (4.7 million versus 2.9 million). Since the 1997-1998 season, it has led consistently. ABC has changed the format of "This Week," with George Stephanopoulos as host, under producer Tom Bettag and a team from Nightline. This is worth watching. At the end of the 2002-2003 season "This Week" averaged 2.75 million viewers.

This is almost surreal. Here is a know liar(The Dinosaur Media) crafting a PR spin (plunging poll numbers) that is an oblivious lie to anyone who bothers to spend even a heart beat looking BEYOND the spin at the raw data.

In stead of helping get the truth out, supposedly "Conservatives" Freepers embrace the spin lie and spend all their time echoing the Dinosaur Media spin lie which is doing exactly what their enemy's want them to do. The same "Conservatives" start spending all their time having public panic attacks about the lie. Repeatedly People point out how it is clear the PR spin is a lie, but since the old "Conservatives" have spent so much time repeating the lie, they now have NO ability to consider any other viewpoint that does NOT reinforce the lie. No matter how the objective data does NOT support the PR lie being presented the supposed "Conservatives" go into foaming at the mouth attack mode when ever anyone points out how reality and the spin lie do not match. Do the supposed "Conservatives" bother to consider the facts and reconsider their emotion based whimsy? No instead they cling to their attack mode and spend all their time patting each other on the back for standing up to anyone who anyone who points out the glaring flaws in basing everything on a "fact" presented you by your political enemies. (ie.Manipulated polling samples). I hate to break your mutual admiration society but you are both completely swallowing the bait. I sorry modern Politics does not work like you remember it did in the 1970s. Make peace with it. The Modern world has passed you by. The world no longer works how Hollywood told you it did back then.

I don't believe the polls are worth this arguement....we vote for a national leader every four years (thanks again founding fathers for having wisdom to do this!)which is a good number of years for the public to judge a president and his agenda.

We don't vote in a new leader after every poll and we don't wage a war by polling for best strategy idea, thank goodness!

Gutless and not a team player escribes Lugar in a nutshell. I am almost as disgusted with him as I am with Bayh, who is another crummy contribution to the Senate from my state.

I want to see some journalist ask Biden, Levin, Pelosi, Reid, et al POINT BLANK .. how it is that they thought so little of their sworn congressional duty in an impending decision to go to war, that " no more than six senators and a handful of House members read beyond the five-page executive summary" (of the National Intelligence Estimate).

==================================

THIS, with excerpt below is ridden with rationalizing and scapegoating, but clarifies the contemptuous and shameful job our elected officials did that they don't want us to remember and for which we continually need to hold them to account. Dontcha just love it when the Dims whine, "he saw intelligence we didn't see ..??" DUH .. HE'S THE PRESIDENT AND YOU'RE NOT.

=========================================

"But Bush does not share his most sensitive intelligence, such as the President's Daily Brief, with lawmakers. Also, the National Intelligence Estimate summarizing the intelligence community's views about the threat from Iraq was given to Congress just days before the vote to authorize the use of force in that country.

In addition, there were doubts within the intelligence community not included in the NIE. And even the doubts expressed in the NIE could not be used publicly by members of Congress because the classified information had not been cleared for release. For example, the NIE view that Hussein would not use weapons of mass destruction against the United States or turn them over to terrorists unless backed into a corner was cleared for public use only a day before the Senate vote.

The lawmakers are partly ((((?????))))) to blame for their ignorance. Congress was entitled to view the 92-page National Intelligence Estimate about Iraq before the October 2002 vote. But, as The Washington Post reported last year, no more than six senators and a handful of House members read beyond the five-page executive summary."

For anyone not see that is crazy..

Nope. For anyone to blindly accept the "Facts" presented to them by their political enemies while making NO effort to look at the raw data is CRAZY. Sorry but Reality does NOT work the way Mike Savage tells you it does. Simply amazing that the SAME people who would be so cynical about an ADVERTIZERS claims blindly accept political advertising as "Fact". That is TRUELY crazy. Really helps the Conservative Agenda that "Conservatives" who should know better continually go out and mindlessly regurgitate the spin lies of their political enemies.

1. I don't believe the polls.

2. I don't particularly care about the polls.

3. I still want better Republicans on the talk shows. Getting the message covered better on those shows would shut up people like David Gregory, who really is a huge pain in the neck.

What amazes me is that these "historians" see nothing "historic" in what has happened in Iraq. Free elections, a constitution, a multi-ethnic and multi-religious state . . . in the Middle East . . . nothing historic about that. Nope.

I was about to say this where you have officially lost touch with reality, but then I recalled your absolutley childish and petulant display from last week. You remember, dont you? The one where you claimed you were in charge of "this thread" and could have anyone booted? The same inane post that was immediatley countered by the admin mods, saying "it doesnt wotk that way"? The fantasy land where you live doesnt transcend everyone elses reality. The adults here recognize an image problem brought about by polls, (whether you believe them or or know they are skewed)a very effective media campaign, and the DNC. You running around and attacking everybody who doesnt believe your spin does our movement and indeed this thread a great disservice. Approval rate has fallen, despite you running around bullying everyone who doesnt agree with you. You are rapidly becoming the Baghdad Bob of FR with your "head in the sand" chiding. If you want to believe everything is just peachy, go right ahead. But dont attack other posters because they dont buy into your fantasy. Why dont you go sit at the childrens table for awhile until you are ready to debate like an adult?

unify behind the troops building support for their efforts. It really angers me when I see our side go wobbly during the talking head shows.

And how does hyper ventilating about Dinosaur Media polls "help" the troops. I would be spending a LOT more time pointing out how the 403-3 US House vote shows the "Anti-War" geeks in the Dinosaur Media are not nearly as all powerful as you and Reagan Man spend all day arguing. IF the Dinosaurs Media was the all powerful force you all have been arguing at least 150-175 safe Democrat seats should of voted FOR that Amendment just as a way of showing "how Bush is weakened by Iraq".

Not even the SAFE seat Democrats dared to vote for it. That is REALITY as opposed to the illusion in the manipulated polling data I pointed out to you all day. But that's right you "Conservatives" "help" the troops by endlessly echoing the Dinosaur Media propaganda lines instead of helping the WH get the truth out about Iraq.

Very true. When they want to emphasize they are a separate and coequal branch of Government they do but when they want "help" they expect the Administration to hold their hand but rarely do anything in return.

And another thing-Dont assume I DONT study raw data. Politics and current events are my hobby, they have been for a good part of my life. You can live in your fantasy land of 72% approval ratings (what pap!) but dont lump the rest of us in with your delusions..

It's doesn't take a mental giant to extrapolate the simple truth that the Sunday Morning talk shows are not the only shows where the premise we have mentioned holds true.

The Sunday Morning talk shows are watched by millions.  So are the left wing cable channels CNN, CNN Headline News, MSNBC, CNBC and even other non-news related networks and programs that state anti-right information as if it were fact.  The list is quite extensive.  We allow the left to spin in a vacuum.  That's what Regan Man and I have been trying to address over your insipid childish objections.  You have tried to state that Bush's poll numbers reveal that the left hasn't achieved anything with it's non-stop unchallenged propaganda.  I can't believe anyone would make that claim, but you not only make it but hugg it like it's the holy grail of modern political environment.

We have the print media, the televions industry and the entertainment industry backing leftist ideology almost as a solid block, and you're upset because some of us are asking the Repbulicans to devise a plan, unify behind that plan and do their best to challenge the leftist propaganda mill.

When Republicans go on talk shows, they should know what bullet point they are going to hit before they enter the front door of the studio.  If they don't, then they should go play golf and quit facilitating the impression that the right doesn't have clue one.

We can't help it if you can't grasp this concept.
