And all the while being totally oblivious to what appears to be a CIA plot to undermine the President of the United States.

Isn't it the case that SP investigations are generally pretty narrow in scope? Perhaps Fitzgerald doesn't have the authority to investigate a possible CIA plot.............the question is, who does?

I think they can go back to the judge and ask to expand the investigation. He probably did just that after he found that nobody had violated the 1979 spy outing law that he was originally asked to investigate.

"...GWB looked mighty PO'd when making his indictment comment before leaving for Camp David..."

Yes, I noticed that as well and let's hope he's got a belly full. My heart just goes out to him - he has pressure we can't even imagine. But he has to get really tough now and I know he can do it.

This whole thing stinks and I think we need to start a Libby Defense Fund! This is a man that has served our country with integrity and distinction and any conservative worth their salt will not let him hang out to dry! His defense will cost him at the very LEAST... 1 MILLION DOLLARS!! What say you Freepers?

So any charge on the underlying "crime?"

It's like Watergate, Clinton's impeachment, and Martha Stewart - it's not the crime that gets you, it's the cover-up.

Not exactly. Libby's case has not even gone to trial yet...it could be thrown out!! Plus..Clintoon was never indicted. He lied to the grand jury over 300 times and never WAS INDICTED!!

Clinton was indicted - that's what an impeachment is. Impeachment is a type of indictment, leading to a trial in the Senate, and there Clinton was acquited on all charges by the spineless Senators.

Libby could well be found not guilty - Nixon wasn't even indicted by the House before he resigned and stopped the process, after all - but that doesn't change the fact that it isn't the crime that takes you down in the end, it's lying about it.

Libby's been taken down. Even if he makes a deal, even if he's never actually convicted, the Chief of Staff of the Vice President of the United States has resigned his post in disgrace. He's done. His political career is through.

Well, at least what he did may not be as bad as the Clinton administration. I don't condone what he did but why weren't the Clintons prosecuted?

After listening to Fitzgerald on radio this afternoon, my subjective read is (1) he's much too defensive and (2) the tremor in his voice or something in it sounded hollow. Like somebody who is doing something they have to do because someone has got them in some trap, or holds a family member hostage, something like that. My feeling.

I don't consider a bunch of spineless senators equal to a smaller group of shadowy grand jurors. Clinton went before a Grand Jury and they never indicted him!!

I also pray that Mr. Libby is not 'Done' as you say. I hope he comes out swinging and we get to the bottom of the REAL QUESTION..WHY WERE ELEMENTS OF OUR OWN CIA ACTIVELY TRYING TO UNDERMINE THE POLICY OF THE USA BY SENDING A KNOWN CRITIC AND LEFT WINGED SLEEZE BALL TO NIGER IN THE FIRST PLACE?

That's how I feel about this thing. Overall, I honestly don't think this will affect much. The libs should be fuming - they didn't get Rove, and, more importantly (IMO), Fitzgerald didn't/wasn't persuaded to give them the "Iraq war" trial they so badly desired.

I feel bad for Libby, but it sounds like (as you state) he screwed up. I'm not sure why he did it. Maybe panicked when faced with tough FBI investigators?

Ultimately, I doubt the public will have much interest over an, until very recently, essentially unknown official (although the press will beat the story to death and then some, and some more...you know the tune). Maybe they could get Gunga-Dan to come out with some memo's about Libby's military service.

He may be, but right now it sounds like he lied to the GJ.
That, however, does NOT mean that my and others' perceptions will change as more details come out (especially if this goes to trial). I'm basing/limiting my comments on what I know right now, nothing more.
