Yes, about 40% of the hispanic vote is what elected him. I think that number has been revised downward. Also, the number is not very impressive when you consider those hispanics were in Bush's home state.

I agree with you that this didn't come close to Bork or Thomas in venom. Not even close.

if OConnor were replaced tomorrow with Janice Rogers Brown - there would still be 5 votes for Roe on the court - Kennedy, Souter, Breyer, Ginsburg, Stevens. the same 5 are for gay marriage.
to turn the tide, one of two things are needed:
- the president elected in 2008 will likely replace Stevens and Ginsburg. Its that president that will remake the court. if we lose the presidency in 2008, its all over, you can forget about any of the SCOTUS issues that concern you. Hillary will remake the court.
- we need a judicial leader, perhaps its Roberts, perhaps its the next appoitnment - to be able to pull Kennedy back from the dark side. Miers certainly wasn't going to be that leader.

. We simply believed it was an additional attribute, which showed the lady had strong moral characterThat is very naive. Being a church member has nothing to do with moral character.

Maybe, if only she never lets the liberals get to her. I need her to hate the libs with the same fierceness as Thomas does.
To: JeffAtlanta
I will remind you of that on every 5-4 O'Connor swing vote case that comes down from here on out.
To: TAdams8591
Few if any of the Miers opponents, though they may disagree with your characterization, are suggesting you keep that opinion to yourself.

Tell flashbunny that.

"Miers should have had her day before the judicial committee. That is where her nomination should have ended if it was to be ended"
Exactly, I agree with all else you said as well. But we eat our own and we, like liberals, like to judge, jury and condemn in the court of public opinion.
President Bush knew this person. For us to criticize him over it gives the liberals confirmation in their opinion of Bush. If I were a Democrat, I would be having a field day with this. "Not only am I right, but now the Conservatives agree; bush is wrong for America".

I merely noted my striking resemblance to Thor. Well, that's a real odd belief for someone who believes nothing.
To: JeffAtlanta
yes, but she will find some other "emanation or penumbra" to say that unlimited abortion is a constitutional right.
To: oceanview
First, you are assuming Kennedy could not already be swayed - read again the dissent in Casey - and second, you are assuming Stevens, Ginsburg, etc. stay on the Court until 2009 ; )

Being a church member has everything to do with moral character. If one believes in the moral law, then they realize their is a moral governor. Anyone who does not accept a moral law and its lawgiver is simply a moral relativist.

To: JeffAtlanta
but you're among fellow conservatives here and criticizing Bush when he does something questionable shouldn't invoke such a reaction.Am I? Most of us are conservatives, but are all of us? And if so, why can DU'ers invade so easily and say the same words against the President and go undetected?
My screenname was chosen right after President Bush took office. I was sickened and disgusted by 8 years of Clinton, and I was rejoicing and thanking God for the election of such a strong, moral, Godly man as President (as I still am). I have never been prouder of any President in my more than half century of living.
I don't care if the name causes misunderstandings because I am who I am. I think for myself as I always have. I'm nobody's robot, nor will I ever be.
btw......I'm also a Browns' fan, and an Indians' fan. Being a fan doesn't mean you think you're dealing with perfection........TRUST me. ;)

Yes...after hearing that Frist visited with Bush about this last night...I agree with you.
BTW...judges just keep making decisions....
I just saw a blurb on C-span that says a "FEDERAL" appeals court has ruled that Georgia CANNOT require picture ID for voters...
