Don't let the idiots get you down. You and I disagree on this selection. But at the same time I'm extraordinarily grateful about the fact that your state and your state alone saved us from a Kerry presidency.

Having trolled the evo threads many times, I can assure you that it's far more than just a few people there who have condescending attitudes towards Christians.

Let the relentless attacks on your religious beliefs be worn as a badge of honor, not a source for dismay.

As I said to you in a previous post, the conservative criticism of Miers doesn't even closely approximate what the Liberals, backed by the MSM, did to Bork and Clarence Thomas. Not even close.

There are always a few, whose remarks go over the top, and there is little if anything which can be done about it.

Even were the above not the case and the Public disagreement was as civil and polite as it could possibly be, it would still be fodder for the Democrats (and the MSM).

If the only action conservatives ever took was the act of breathing, the Democrats would characterize that action as committed by conservatives, as evil.

It is most unfortunate, but that's the way it is. We cannot permit it to stop us from promoting and achieving the success of the conservative agenda.

Those who vilified Ms. Miers did so without actually talking to HER first.

OMG you have to talk to a nominee personally before you can form an opinion?!?!?!??!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I must have missed my invite to the meet 'n greet!

What's your argument, that it's "your turn" to get a nominee of your particular faith to the SCOTUS? How about Jimmy Carter himself? This nominee was pretty much Carter in a dress. I could personally give a 'rats ass if the nominee is a druid, so long as they faithfully interpret the intentions of the authors of the constitution.

That is how you saw it. I am very well aware of which side of this debate you were on, and I am simply telling everyone how the hard core Evangelicals who are the workers are going to react.

They worship something, but it ain't God.

Of course they worship God. They do it differently from us, but, to borrow from another FReeper, God is who He is no matter how we see Him or what we think of Him.

I think this withdrawal injures the president. He is obviously weakened.

He was weak to begin with. He did this entirely to himself.

Bush had an opportunity to follow up John Roberts with another home run. At school, when we were talking about this news soon after it broke, the unanimous opinion was that Roberts, while conservative, was a scholar of impeccable ability. No one thought he didn't deserve to sit on the Supreme Court bench.

Instead, he picked Miers - a woman we know nothing about. Where Roberts was cool and articulate on Constitutional law matters, Miers showed ignorance. During Robert's confirmation proceedings, he showed a firm grasp of Constitutional law. No one - even my most liberal friends - could deny he know what he was talking about. Miers showed no such command. What glimpses we had - and they were preciously scant - suggested she might just be out of her league.

And then, when Bush found that this nomination wasn't the bone to his base that he thought it was, he tried to pander, and it backfired tremendously. I was insulted by the whispering campaign that Rove tried with Dobson, trying to surriptitiously assure him that, "Psst. She's an Evangelical. Read between the lines." Unabashed pandering. I voted against Kerry because, even when he was right, he was clearly pandering to tell people what they wanted to hear. Bush fell into the exact same trap.

What does Bush need to do now? Pick another John Roberts - not a firebrand ideologue like Luttig or Janice Rogers Brown. He just doesn't have the political weight to push around to get that done. Rather, he needs to find someone who clearly knows what he is talking about. The person needs to be conservative, qualified, and confirmable.

The other thing Bush needs to do is end this affirmative action hiring crap. It shouldn't matter whether the nominee is a woman, Hispanic, or any other group he wishes to pander to. Pick a person based off of their knowledge of Constitutional Law and their judicial temperment, not their heritage or gender. Enough of the focus group pandering.

The true God judged lots of people for worshipping the wrong god.

It's not something to be taken lightly.

Well, I hear Lawrence Tribe is available.

I would not change anything. The Judges are nominated by the sitting President and remain on the Court until they decide to retire or leave this earth.

It had nothing to do with her being an evangelical. Get the chip off your shoulder. See my sig line - it's over. Deal with it.

You want to forget after you murdered the baby, but in part it did have to do with her being an Evangelical. I am simply laying out the results, which you don't like. You were the one with the chip on your shoulder in attacking her.

Thanks for the kind words.

I guess that one of the revelations of coming on this board almost 5 years ago was finding out, not that there were non-Christians........of course there are...........but there were those who were outwardly hostile to the Christian faith.

It's hard to be allied with those whose fundamental beliefs are diametrically opposed to those of God's word.

"In this world you will have trouble, but take heart, I have overcome the world." John 16:33

I pray that President Bush in his heart of hearts, feels this, and is not discouraged, or feels alone, but rather feels the presence of the Lord with him, and the support of those of us who respect him, whether we agree with every decision he makes, or not.

That's right, I have violated my judicial obligations and oath and made up my mind to be a strict constructionalist ahead of time.

She deserves some apology and I believe some concrete compensation in terms of an award or another post suited to her, because, frankly, words are cheap in Washington. But words are also daggers that cannot be withdrawn.

Well, I wouldn't say she deserves compensation, but I doubt she'll have any fondness for David Frum or George Will. Frum was particularly vindictive, but that's what I've come to expect from that little weasel.

National Review has wrecked itself among a great many conservatives, as has Kristol's little rag.

She will get no apology from anybody, because, you see, anything can be done or said if the country's best interests are at heart. (/sarcasm)

It was not abuse to discuss her record - and I have not heard one person attack her personally. (Though perhaps it happened from a few.)

Meyers was set up and out of her depth. I have sympathy for that treatment, but in no way was she qualified to serve at the proposed level. President Bush was not careful in his nomination, and it caused problems.

"That is an outright lie. I'll debate anyone on any issue, but I will not tolerate lies. So stop it. NOW."

Read post #2664 for Gary saying as much... don't make me dig up quotes of you doing the same. I recall reading them.
