Well being concrete here, there are many freepers who would cut off their daughters in a second without looking back over any number of issues. WHy are we surprised they would cut off the President?

You weren't paying attention then, since her education was not an issue (although some may have taken potshots at it). Conservatives do not hit the trenches so that they can get a Harvard grad over an SMU grad, it's just silly to suggest that that might be the case.

Factually inaccurate. Many dropped out because they didn't want to subject their families under the same "politics of personal destructon" microscope that they themselves get put under. Many of them also dropped out because the Democrats made it quite clear just what "outside the mainstream" meant. It's very complicated, and has nothing to do with Rove or Dobson chatting privately.

Please prove me wrong.

"I wonder when people are going to realize that the much heralded political genius in the WH may not be as great as they thought...."

Ok, now it's the turn of alleged Bush "supporters" to bash Bueh because "this nominee" has withdrawn "now". Peachy.

Not just "only" elites - but also forget ever nominating a White House counsel or head of OLC (i.e. another Scalia or Rehnquist). This is a sad day indeed - just wait until tomorrow.

"And now all the Miers haters are gearing up to do the same to the next person the President nominates."

We'll see. I just know that if Bush does put up a Luddig/Owens type, and the Senate shows the same kind of pathetic spineless kind of behavior they have the past five years, that nominee will fail on the floor, IF it even gets out of committee. And if that happens, and we end up with a moderate or a liberal, because of that full floor failure, it will be the fault of the anti-Miers crowd.

Let's see how many of these howlers stick around to actually support Bush's next choice.

First ... let's see who Bush's next choice will be. It he/she is as poor a choice as Miers ... well, we just may start "howling" again. Brace yourself!

I agree with you 100%. The fact I refused to get involved in this flame war should speak volumes on here because I have been involved in most of the rest. I wasn't willing to walk the plank for this nomination and I wasn't willing to toss her overboard until after the hearings UNLESS something came out before. That 1993 speech did it for me!

She was not the best nominee IMHO but for whatever reason she was nominated, she didn't deserve to be called names, etc. That was very tacky and uncalled for as she should have been judged on her writings and her speeches along with her testimony before the Senate Judiciary. Based on what I have read this week, I don't think she would have survived the hearings and why she withdrew so as not to embarrass the President.

Under the category of "no liberal bias," the following AP headline is prominently featured on Yahoo at this time:

"Bush Abandons Push for Miers Nomination" http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051027/ap_on_go_su_co/miers_withdraws. Note the story file name in the link. Gee, Harriet withdraws so Bush stops pushing. Whoda thunk it?

I was called a three-toed tree sloth a few weeks back by a Miers supporter.

See, that's wrong. Sloths and Lemurs are not the same. Geez!

"Right wing "conservatives" cannot win without the middle of the road conservatives, you know, the ones you sneer at. Don't believe me: see the Reform Party or The Constitution Party. "

Yeah, yeah, yeah. See also "Reagan" and "Coburn." I sneer not at middle of the road conservatives, but at faux conservatives like you. I can accept Rehnquists. Sometimes federal authority will have to win. But we don't need you Specters steering us to the left lane instead of the middle when we have proven we can win on the right.

Just like I won't forget the way Kristol, Coulter, Ingraham, Frum, Will and others have just been NASTY towards her...with no modicum of respect...

I think that even if Bush nominates a Luttig or Janice Rogers Brown that SOME of the more "nasty" freepers want, and who I like also...

I won't be inclined to forget some of the hatefulness towards other freepers during this so-called debate.

Part of the "process" is the right to withdraw a name from consideration. President Bush didn't want to hand over White House files to back up this nomination. That was his right - and a legitimate part of the process.

That sounds like a spin to me. Please, give me more intelligence than that. He had a gun to his head over her. She saw how she was being ripped apart by conservatives and liberals alike. Nothing, absolutely nothing she could have said and done would have separated the lions from their meat. She deserved the right to be heard.

But, some will take solace, Ted Kennedy agrees with many here.

You don't understand the reason for the opposition. It wasn't because she was close to the White House. It was because there wasn't anything more to her than that.

"excellent idea to appoint Santorum."

Can't. Santorum (though I love the guy) has no track record as a judge.
