"she cited conservative bêtes noires Janet Reno and Justice Ginsburg as female role models." This is the woman some here are defending...

Brown is good and fine, and I'd be pleased for sure. But if it didn't "have to be" a woman I'd prefer Luttig.
Hopefully Dubya is saving him for when Stevens goes (He is 83 and can't last forever).

You did the right thing Mrs Miers! You're on the right road to become a true conservative. God bless you!

I agree. It just makes Bush look weak to me. I was beginning to feel sorry for her. Why would anyone want to go through that?

I think we are going to get a firebrand. If Fitzgerald come through whith a steaming load, the more right wing the SCOTUS nominee is, the less time the press will spend on the Plame mess.

No, I've got it ! Since Bush's personal attorney didn't make the cut, maybe his barber or garderner? His insurance agent?
To: SoFloFreeper
I kinda feel sorry for her now, it's too bad that she had to go through all of this......OK! Next!

She's a Libertarian and cannot be trusted.Funny, I never got that impression. Otherwise I would have liked her better - not that it's anyone's business but my own.

Wonderful news for conservatives who have labored over twenty years to bring sanity back to our black robed tyrants and the Judiciary. This was a bone headed pick, and anyone who defended this nomination has become a Bush disciple and not a supporter. A supporter can disagree with a President while a disciple questions nothing. You Bush-bots should be ashamed of yourselves for following a man and not a philosophy. Read some history.

And McCain, (Might run for Pres.) DeWine, Graham, Warner etc. will feel the heat from their constituents to use the nuke option.

Now Bush must nominate a strong conservative. Period. Bull. Bush must nominate someone who can be confirmed, and a "strong conservative" who is KNOWN to be so doesn't have much of a chance. The anti-Miers faction just bullied there way into the hands of the gang of fourteen.

To: conservaDave
Luttig would be a good choice. I'll bet, though, that we ultimately get someone who's no more conservative than Miers, and perhaps less so. The liberals are going to throw everything they've got at whoever the next nominee is, and the media is going to paint a picture of an ultra right-winger.
