The seat to be filled in place of the retiring O'Connor is a woman's seat.I hope it's not "Hillary's seat".

(Take two - this time, nominate a conservative, not someone who would be at least as bad as O'Connor.)

I think that we have really handed the Dems a giant victory.Whether or not this turns out to be a victory for the Democrats depends on what happens next. The problem is, too many conservatives are afraid of the Dems, so would be unnecessarily apprehensive about the choice of someone like Brown. But the fact is, the Democrats have no popular support for their position on this. All they have is media support, which creates the illusion of popular support.
The reason the Dems are so adamant about the judiciary is precisely that they know that their views are outside the mainstream, so they need the judiciary to impose them. Does anybody here deny this basic fact? Anybody at all? OK, so if this truth is undeniable, then what the hell are we afraid of? We can take this message to the people, and put these clowns completely on the defensive once and for all. This is truly one of those cases where the only thing to fear is (blind, irrational) fear itself.

"By the way, I sure hope all the sniping at the President now stops here at FR."
What? Are we supposed to forget that he even tried to pull this one off?
I'm glad she's out and I hope we get a better nominee, but as far as I'm concerned its not like Bush is "Ok" now.

Who was the woman that Gingsberg replaced? I only recall O'Connor as being the lone woman on the SCOTUS until Gingsberg was confirmed. If that is the case, why can't Gingsberg replace O'Connor and we nominate a guy to the SCOTUS?

I don't suppose it occurs to any of you folks that the exact same outcome could have been accomplished without the vitriol exhibited by so many pundits and people on this board. People could have worked behind the scenes and accomplished a dignified withdrawal, instead of airing dirty laundry for the public's edification. How do you know it would for sure?

That would have been worth the failed nomination! I wish these people would realize that you only live once. Would you rather look back on your life and say, "hey, I nominated a nobody and nothing happened," or "I nominated a firebrand and kicked some liberal butt!"

There will be no reunification.LOL........I was laughing about that to myself; they just assume we'd all fall in line.
Oh, they "won" this round; but I'm not sure they realize what the "prize" is going to be. :-)

It also put a permanent end to the Pukin Dog vanities, and that cant be a bad thing either*************

If the President had not publicly slapped us in the face, a public response would not have been necessary.

I am relieved Ms. Miers withdrew her name. Who is the next lamb for the slaughter? Look, you and a handfull of others here were consistaently wrong on this, thread after thread.
This woman finally withdraws here name, as she should and your "wrong crowd" is here again running your mouth. Give it a rest. You were wrong! And most of you can't even admit it. You just continue to shoot off your mouths.
Look, if he makes another bad choice, he's going to hear about it!
Is that OK with you?

Don't be paranoid. Religious Faith (or lack there of) is not relevant to appropriateness for SCOTUS.
Maybe not in your mind, but the Founding Fathers held it in high esteem.
