If Bush nominates a real conservative this time the Dems are really going to feel the heat from their wacko base to filibuster.
To: livius
Now Bush has been completely undermined for the rest of his term. Not at all... He can put this behind him (and us) and reverse the tide by choosing a better candidate.

A lot of freepers here "just don't get it."
Miers was nominated because she could have been confirmed!!Look up the word!!
Someone please tell me which true conservative can be confirmed with the rat/rinos we are infested with in the senate!!
A lot of being president is doing what is right for the country. Thats what GW has been doing for years now. "Right" is to get a nominee confirmed. Wrong is to nominate the perfect conservative and than watch them go down in flames because of too many rinos and rats in the Senate.
Some here need to wake up.

My two cents thrown in the pot for Mrs. Janice Rogers Brown.
To: SoFloFreeper
John Fund confidently predicted this on Tuesday while appearing on Kudlow and Company. He was
very confident that the withdrawal would come before early next week.
He said that Miers was not making a good impression and that the hearings would be a disaster for all involved. He implied that her lack of judicial knowledge would be an embarassment, and that the "documents" issue would be a used as a fig leaf to cover up this fact.

Let's see the media try to sink the first African American woman appointee to the SCOTUS!

And now all the Miers haters are gearing up to do the same to the next person the President nominates. And all those who don't hate anyone but who honestly felt she was not either qualified nor a true conservative are praying that Bush will now nominate a truly qualified conservative constructionist with a substantial track record supporting that assessment.
To: The_Victor
That explains why her revised answers to the Congressional questionnaire were not turned in by last night's deadline. I heard the answers were turned in this morning, and the resignation letter was announced close to the same time.

It happened last night after I said she should withdraw.

I assumed she was one of the people who said she didn't want the job. No? I wonder how many of our favorites declined when asked by President Bush and how many good ones are left to choose from.

Not only has she taken an incredible amount of abuse--the bigger issue is that the president is badly wounded by this, and it will take it's toll on him and his administration.
There have been times during the Bush presidency that have made me cringe and shake my head in wonder. In some ways, he has been his biggest enemy. Nominating Ms Miers is just the latest example.

Yes, I'm very happy. Wanna bet that either Luttig or someone of his conservative bent is nominated? I'll support Luttig all the way. Miers was too questionable in her standings and we CANNOT afford to risk another Ginsburg or Stevens making to the bench.

I wonder who W will nominate next, Hillary perhaps?
To: COEXERJ145
Now the President will appease the malcontents by nominating someone from their approved list. It's a short list.
While they've spent four weeks bitching about Miers, their enemies and opponents have been quietly building background on the people from the short list.
NOW it will get nasty, and the center voters will become more disenfranchised, if that's possible.
Good GOP plan.
To: Guenevere
Yeah, I was right, but it was getting hairy there for a moment. But finally, her writings and answers were just not to the standard needed for the position.
