Janice Rogers Brown can pass the confirmation process! She's already got a fierce reputation as a judicial activist who will legislate from the bench, and that is what the opposition to Miers wanted.
I hope she's the candidate, because those who have supported President Bush and Miers deserve a fight.
I mean... uh....ermm..
I've taken a lot of heat for supporting W through this whole thing, even though I'm a JRB fan.
This may be a time for all the BushBashers to put their money where there fingers are. If W nominates a real conservative, we'd better pull together.
It could be an opportunity for the "base" to rally.
I do get it, though.
Do they really think that the Dems are going to let a true conservative judge go thru? If they are giving Miers a hard time what will they do to any of the real conservative judges? They will slam them left and right. We won't get anyone thru that way. In a way, the Dems have won.
And if the President nominates say, Justice Brown and she does get shot down, it will still set a precident.
There will never again be a Ginsberg, either.
I get it and I am sick and tired of the rancor and downright subversive activity in the Senate. And we pay these guys. I've told my husband, I would like to go down to the Senate and stand up in the gallery and tell them all to stop the posturing and do what they are paid to do with our tax money !!! I'd probabably get arrested.
Sorry, just because something is difficult doesn't mean you give up. I hope you don't go through life with that motto.
This is exactly why we loose a little more ground each day and the left gains.
Until we get real men with real values ready to fight for what is right and the Constitution, then we will continue to loose what made this country great and eventually this country.
A true lefty has no problem being confirmed because rinos are such pansies.
Maybe YOU "just don't get it". Getting a pro-racial quota, pro-tax, pro-abortion justice is NOT winning.
At least you admit she wasn't a "true conservative".
>>>"Right" is to get a nominee confirmed.<<<
So, it was right for Bush to nominate Souter; Reagan to nominate O'Connor and Kennedy? That is ridiculous.
Check your math. You need 50 votes plus Cheney to rule a filibuster out of bounds. Several moderates (Warner, DeWine, etc.) would probably love to vote against a very conservative candidate, but they would never vote to uphold a filibuster.
Read what the "Gang of 14" said about why they did what they did: They claimed to be avoiding a crisis. Now only TWO of the gang of 14 had to be sincere. For all of the venom spewed at Lindsey Graham, for instance, can anyone really believe that he would uphold a filibuster?
What Bush wanted to avoid with Miers was NOT a defeat. He wanted to avoid a fight.
Miers was a tone deaf nomination that, for some reason, failed to go through regular vetting procedures. Trying to put an unknown, stealth candidate through this process ... with escalating outrage, both in the Senate and in GWB's base ... was not only an outrage but, also, a cruel thing to do to this woman who is supposed to be GWB's and Laura's dear friend.
The SCOTUS is not an appropriate place for OJT.*
>>A lot of freepers here "just don't get it."
Miers was nominated because she could have been confirmed!!Look up the word!!<<
So you are okay with anybody, so long as they can be confirmed? Most of us have standards. Look up the word.
