Not sure what has happened yet. But there appears to have been a very large explosion in Choctaw, OK. Choctaw is just East of OKC and NE of Norman.
I so admire creativity!!!!!!!
It is NOT that close to Norman and don't understand why Norman would be mentioned when talking about Choctaw. Midwest City yes but not Norman. The police could not find burn marks or anything else except neighbors saying they heard a loud explosion and smelled gun powder when they went outside.
West Norman is a lot farther than 12-15 miles away. Do you live in this area?
I live in East Norman which is closer and yet we are not that close to the site and unlike the explosives that were blown up after the suicide bomber that rattled my front window, I heard nothing and I am about 4-5 miles closer than West Norman.
Apparently on an OU Fan Message Board the original poster posted a the thread saying he lived about 1 mile west of I-35 and heard a loud explosion. He wanted to know if anyone else heard, or knew of anything. Follow-up reports from KOCO Ch. 5 news related by other posters stated the explosion occurred in Choctaw. As of this time I'm unable to find reports of this in the local media.
I have no idea where this poster lives but Choctaw is 30 miles from where I live in East Norman and I live about 4-5 miles from West Norman. It takes 45 minutes to get to Choctaw from North North High School if not a little longer than that.
There is no way this could have been heard in West Norman -- zero, zip, nada. Police cannot find burn marks anywhere but will look again in the morning.
As opposed to Hugh? This could be series!
Sorry, couldn't resist.
That's definitely weird to say the least... I wonder if they're looking in the wrong area perhaps? Must've gotten a phone call or something if police cordoned off the school in Choctaw though.
I Can't imagine how the person could've heard it that far away. Perhaps there was a crash or something on the Interstate near the same time?
I watched Channel 5 after the Football Game and they cannot find anything. They broke into the game with the news. There is no way that they could have heard this in West Norman. Maybe in way East Norman north of Lake Thunderbird but that is at least 10 miles from where I live east.
Was at the computer when they broke in the game and my windows did not rattle at all and they definitely rattled and I heard the explosion the other Sunday night.
We are 30+ miles away from Choctaw and that school.
A crash on I-35 would make much more sense. A resident from Choctaw they interviewed said that a car sped off from in front of his house right after the explosion which neighbors said happened behind a school.
Certainly not for Billy Jie.
Looking back at his posts he states that "if I heard an explosion from Choctaw in Norman the whole town would have to be gone". So, he doesn't think it's connected. He said his four neighbors heard it too, so I'm guessing what he heard is unrelated to the explosion reported in Choctaw...
I really *hate* not being able to edit my posts.
<:-(
He is right about hearing an explosion from Choctaw in Norman it would have to have been major -- it has been pretty quiet around here tonight -- haven't even heard any planes flying around. I have a cold so I had trouble sleeping so got back up and didn't expect to find this reported. :)
Reads like a test, they now know how the local dept works.
More of the 12,500 Iraq \ from Gulf War one?
There's always the possibility of a "work accident". The area is semi-rural, with lot of small to large acreages. I've got some friends who live in Choctaw, and I was in the general area about 2 years ago.
What football game. No stadium anywhere near there, and they don't play any non pro football games on Monday nights anyway. I think the football game, was on the TV station reporting the event, You know, Monday Night Football. The Falcons beat the Jets.
Black powder does. It's available in up to 50 lbs lots without a license. Fifty pounds of BP will make a BIG bang.
But following the links in the thread shows nothing found, no crater, no damage, nothing. So that means it must have been an air burst. How do you launch 50 pounds high enough to make no ground crater?
One wonders if the "smell of gunpowder" report is correct, or what short of gunpowder the person meant. No burnt or scorch marks found could indicate something like TATP, which doesn't heat up much. You'll note that there were no large marks or lots of smoke involved with the "lone suicide" at the Oct. 1 game either. Just thinking in print.
