Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- When a Supreme Court nominee doesn't have a black and white record on abortion, groups on both sides of the abortion debate look for nuances that could show a glimpse of how the nominee would rule on the contentious issue. Pro-life advocates may have found one on Harriet Miers with regard to the pro-life evangelical church she attends.

Ted Kennedy is against abortion but FOR womens rights. That is how he cake walks around his religion.
Do you feel that anyone in the public educational system should be barred from any leadership role in the Dept. of Education as well since the educational system is so leftwing?
The pastors actually support abortion??? The church itself "supports" it???
Or is it a case of "live and let live" (just about as bad - but still not quite the same).
Also, I haven't been gone THAT long!!
I like your theory....
The relevant thing is Meirs' view of precedent. Given that all lawyers are grilled with the supremacy of case law, and given that Miers has nothing indicating she has an opposing judicial philosophy (which would be remarkable indeed), it is highly unlikely she would reject the orthodoxy taught in law school.
The crisis of courts extends beyond personal feelings about abortion. One must have a correct understanding of the Constitution, and respect the limits it imposes on the courts.
The Founders intended the judicial to be the weakest branch of government. Does Miers share that view? Or does she accept the modern notion that supreme law comes from the bench?
"So what. The BTK Killer attended a pro-life, evangelical church, and no one had a clue what a monster he was."
I see. So did James Dobson, Chuck Colson, Jay Sekulo, American Center for Law & Justice, and President Bush support him too?
Ok, I can except that, she hasn't been a judge. I would prefer it that way myself. She is a workaholic, she'll come up to speed very quickly, IMHO. Have you read any of her opinions?

Hell, I think that most of the folks in the public education system should be barred from contact with children in the first place!
But seriously... yes, yes I do agree with the statement in your question. Why the heck would you take people who are part of the problem and propose them to be solutions?
Harriet Miers is going to be an AWESOME Supreme Court Justice!
I was a doubter, but as more information comes out, the more determined I am that this is a truly GREAT pick!
The way I feel about it is that if you are going to nominate a lawyer, then you nominate a judge. Otherwise you do the country and the world a favor and nominate someone who is not a lawyer at all (and maybe restore some common sense to the Court).
If you would not see any Bar qualification as advantageous, there would be a lot of conservatives who are now active for conservative causes in the judicial field out in the cold.
These are good signs..
But does she believe Roe v. Wade should be overturned? And if yes, would she act on it? I wish there were a way to know..
William Rehnquist did not have any judicial experience when Nixon chose him. Key words: no judicial experience.
My church is pro-life, too. Unfortunately, my pastor is not.
*sigh*
It's tough being a Catholic.
>> Last I checked, John Kerry and Ted Kennedy also attend a pro-life church. <<
No, the Paulist Center isn't Catholic! It just advertises that it is.
I would hope that they have other qualifications. If not, their applications aren't resting on much.
I would guess that there's a conservative or two in the ACLU or the UN trying to reform it from the inside as well, but I wouldn't consider either one anything but a stain on a resume.
Fair enough. I believe that 33(?) Supreme court justices were not judges, so it's not exactly a precedence to nominate a non-judge. As long as she can read the Constitution, keep her hands off my weapons and refrain from legislating from the bench, she is far better than O'Connor any day......
>> Uh, because not EVERYONE in the bar is a raving homosexual lunatic. <<
That's right! Haven't YOU ever walked into a gay bar by mistake? "Ummm.. the guys in here all look a little fruity, and there seems to be a lot of Adam's Apples on the ladies... I'm thinking the name Rammstein has little to do with industrial music. C'mon chica, let's find a different club."
