Yes, but all the doom and gloomers say that Rehnquist was eminently qualified because......he was a scholar.

Actually, William Rehnquist had prior Supreme Court experience. He served as a Supreme Court law clerk for Justice Robert Jackson. Judges do not write most of their opinions. They rely on law clerks to do that. Being a SCOTUS law clerk is almost like being on the Supreme Court itself. Clerks are completely immersed in constitutional law, and often create the arguments that affect the entire country.

Not only has Miers never been a SCOTUS law clerk, she has no expertise whatsoever in constitutional law.
