Harriet Miers
And, Mike Brown is the best manager FEMA ever had.
That's it, buddy. You can't be on the Supreme Court either, and that's final!
Did they just call W a Jimmy Carter?
Presidents typically select their friends for AG, not SCOTUS. The Court is too important to do this.
PA. Seems like he might have a shot.
You trying to compare Al Gore to Ronald Reagan proves your stupidity!
Yes.
Reagan re-energized the GOP starting in '76 and then of course in 1980.
The only thing that sucks is that we had to live through 4 years of Carter before it happened.
LAURA INGRAM JUST READ IT ON HER RADIO SHOW!!
SHE DONATED TO AL GORE!
ALSO HARRY REID SUGGESTED TO BUSH THAT HE PICK THIS WOMAN!!!! WE HAVE BEEN STABBED IN THE BACK BIG TIME!
Too much cronyism/personal affilation with the President to be take as a serious candidate. She'll be defeated and in the process wear down the opposition for the "real" nominee who is being held in reserve.
Read it again. I quoted where Preachin' claimed to speak for the church.
You clearly don't get it. Giuliani is the best shot at beating Hillary, as noted in numerous polls. I'm a lifelong conservative Southerner, so don't give me the nonsense that he can't win the South, that's baloney. And ya'll know that, which scares ya'll because he isn't pro-life and ya'll know that most people are not single-issue voters.
I know many who are disappointed, and not just with this pick but a variety of issues. However, very few of them are wrist-slashing "I'm quitting the GOP!(Again!)" perennial moaners.
Wow...epilepsy?
Or did a button get stuck?

I hope in a year you will be choking on your yells.
"See post #1322 before you say Gore was voting Pro Life in 87"
I think you addressed the wrong person...
I never said "Gore was voting Pro Life in 87"
Laura Bush has said that she is pro-life. (I know about the Roe v Wade remark 5 years ago, but these comments were recent and she was asked a direct question..... and unless you think that Laura Bush is a liar, you should believe her).
For you to say that she would put her husband 'on the couch' if he nominated a pro-life SC nomineed, was out of line. WAY out of line.
Besides which, Harriet Miers IS pro-life. So you're just wrong all the way around.
That was my gut reaction. And, if she is passed, I imagine that GWB knows enough about her to feel that she will be at least marginally better than SDO.
There isn't enough info I have come across to make ANY useful judgment about her though. She might be a perfect nominee (a stealther in the good way).
Duh-of course. I was thinking "football" and therefore was thinking IL from when Mike Ditka was thinking of running for Senate-all this chaos this morning screwed me up.
Swann's still fairly young isn't he? Even if he's "old" by football standards he's what, 50 at the oldest?
Yes, I think that's great. But would you be offended if at first blush, I preferred --in the abscence of lots of information about you and no obvious conservative credentials in evidence-- a woman or man who has conspicuous symbols-- their spouse and children-- of their pro-life, pro-family philosophy?
..............WHAT? So any friend of the President is simply not worthy of a Supreme Court nomination?
Good point. I was just questioning the conclusion that she is "pro-life" based only on the postion she took relating to the ABA vote on the issue - which was "the entire membership of the ABA should vote on this." That is, she expressed preference for neither side, but advocated that whatever position was taken would be stronger if all the members had direct voice.
