From Staff Reports
NORMAN -- An explosion near the University of Oklahoma's Gaylord Family-Memorial Stadium killed one person Saturday, OU officials said.

The explosion happened at the courtyard near the George Lynn Cross Hall, Botany-Microbiology Building on OU's campus, which is west of the stadium, according to Sgt. Gary Robinson of the University police department.

The explosion happened during the second quarter of Oklahoma's game against Kansas State.

After the explosion, police set up a perimeter of several blocks and made fans exit the stadium to the east.

FWIW, according to my ticket:

"11. Due to safety considerations, umbrellas are prohibited within the stadium.
12. All bags, backpacks, large cases for binoculars or other items, fanny packs and large purses (larger than 10" by 10") are prohibited. Only such items required for medical or family needs will be permitted. All carried items and entrants are subject to search."

Because of this, my wife did not even bring her purse to the game. I don't recall seeing any backpacks, although I saw purses that appeared to be at 10X10 (which is not all that large, really.) I can't say for sure how strictly these published rules are enforced, but I would honestly be a little surprised if they let in a kid with a full backpack - I suspect they would be searching it for alcohol, not explosives, but I don't think he would have just been waved in.

Do you think he tried?

"They were supposedly already watching him."

THen there is a likelihood that they were watching him put his harness on and decided it was time to pop him. BOOM! No body, no bulletholes to look for.

My first thought when I saw that. You beat me to the possibility.

Red flags over the MSM's coverage of the Oklahoma suicide bomber.

Great link. That story puts a lot of interesting tidbits out there. Was that video clip from today or yesterday? I think I missed the timing on it.

I think I remember that there were between 10,000 to 20,000 IRG who were brought to Oklahoma right after the first Gulf War. Could be wrong.

Just posted this on another thread:

There is no vaccine for the Avian flu. It is still mutating/recombining so it's not possible to make a vaccine for it yet.

If anyone wants to read about it, read here - with info and commentary by some very knowldegeable and educated freepers and articles from all over:

Avian Flu Surveillance Project ^

And apparently Tamiflu may not be effective against the Avian flu.

(I've been reading about the Avian flu for quite some time, it's very intresting reading and does indeed look like a possibly serious thing.)

I'm sorry, I haven't been posting here very long, but all this avian flu stuff--is this somehow related to the OU bombing this past weekend? Again, sorry if I'm confused about this.

I checked the AP wire again today, just the same two puny blurbs, dated the 1st and 2nd.

Apparently, the FBI hasn't talked to this clerk yet, or he wouldn't have told the media anything, either. I'm sure they will be.

I put my purse in an OU bag and the person barely looked at it and didn't even look in my daughter's purse. Looks like I wasn't the only one not happy.

A little OT, but maybe not, as it demonstrates the lackadaisical attitude that seems to have set in this long after 9/11. Last year, when I moved from Los Angeles to Miami, I drove cross-country on I-10 in a rental car. A few miles east of El Paso, Texas, I was stopped at a customs checkpoint. An agent came up to my window and asked, "US citizen?" I said yes. Then he asked, "Where you headed?" I said Miami from L.A. He said, "Okay, move along."

I was stunned. I had expected, at the very least, to be asked to show my DL. I was prepared to open my trunk. The agent had to tell me again to move along because I did a double-take.

Over a year later, I still can't believe the guy took my word for it that I was a US citizen, and didn't even ask to see my DL. I get asked to show my DL every time I use a credit card to buy something!

The caller said Boren's office was spearheading the investigation? I thought the FBI was?

And miss a chance to be interviewed by Oprah when she demands the rest of the country to apologize to you?

"Joel Henry Hinrichs III had inquired about purchasing a significant amount of ammonium nitrate,"

So much for the lone suicide theory. He wouldn't need "a significant amount of ammonium nitrate" to commit suicide. And the fact that he had plans requiring the ammonium nitrate doesn't sound like the actions of a young man who was depressed and contemplating suicide.

The fact that there is an obvious MEDIA BLACKOUT indicates that there IS a Homeland Security aspect to this event.

Precisely. The silence speaks volumes. If this were just a suicide, the MSM would be all over it, trying to find out why the guy killed himself. Did tormentors drive him over the edge? That sort of thing. They'd even be postulating he was a right-wing extremist. Nothing stopped them from speculating about the anthrax after 9/11. The fact they're staying away from this story is significant.

Question for you or anyone that knows anything about explosives -- I know nothing. What would a directional device do with a bomb?

My OU bag that contained my purse is 12 x 14 and they didn't bother to check it -- just looked in at my purse on top.

Can you say COVER-UP in progress but it is not working? Word is starting to leak out about this not being a lone person who committed suicide.

Thanks a lot for the ping and the follow up. Will catch up on the threads tomorrow. Got a few deliverables due tonight. BTW, this story gets murkier by the day.
