Hurricane Rita Live Thread, Part V
NHC - NOAA ^ | 22 September 2005 | NHC - NOAA

Posted on 09/22/2005 5:44:09 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Category Four Hurricane Rita continues to move toward landfall along the northwest Gulf of Mexico shoreline. Mandatory and voluntary evacuations continue across Texas and Louisiana coastal areas. Lake Charles LA is providing evacuations by bus for residents who have no transportation.

Traffic gridlock in the greater Houston area was compounded by gasoline stations without fuel, long lines at those stations still carrying fuel, and record breaking temperatures on the first day of autumn.

Offshore drilling platforms and rigs, as well as oil refineries, petrochemical and natural gas plants are in the path of the storm. Wave heights recorded by buoy have exceeded 38 feet. The refineries threatened by Hurricane Rita are on higher ground than those affected by flooding from Katrina. As a result, speculation abounds regarding future prices for winter heating fuel and gasoline.

No, we use them to move things like homes and rocket boosters and we really don't want to take up more than one lane while doing so.

You can literally park two large trucks side by side in one lane of the average Texas two lane without touching the lane markings.

That would be great and the first reporter he should go to is David Gregory. I would pay $100 to see Honore btch slap him out the door.

"On Bellaire Boulevard in southwest Houston, a weeping woman and her young daughter stood on the sidewalk, surrounded by plastic bags full of clothes and blankets. "I'd like to go, but nobody come get me," the woman said in broken English. When asked her name, she looked frightened. "No se, no se," she said: Spanish for "I don't know."

Her daughter, who appeared to be about 9, whispered in English, "We're from Mexico." "

Going to be lots of complaints when this is over. Will Mexico officials claim that The Governor was trying to kill the illegal aliens a la Sharpton and Jackson.

Nope, not trouble staying on the road... just need plenty of room to park the burned out vehicles of out-of-staters we ran off the road. Texas FM road's shoulders are the size of a full lane. Makes for fantastic bicycle riding.

<<< the libs would like nothing better than a civil war.>>>

We've already seen what Lib Civil War looks like. It happened 3 weeks ago.....

Within 24-48 hours after the RED counties cut off the Food, Fuel, Electricity, and Water to the Blue Dots, the well-armed 'Hood starts feeding on the unarmed 'burbs...

Enemy defeats self....
Civil War Ends...
Let Freedom Ring....

KPRC showing bumper to bumper traffic...lots of cars without gas

I saw it with my own eyes not more than a couple of hours ago. I was helping a friend board up some rather large and exposed windows on his house. On my way back home, I decided to drive to where I could take a look at I-45 here in The Woodlands. It's 10 lanes of parking lot not a half mile away. People are camped out on the side of the road, at businesses on the feeders, and anywhere they can find a place.

There is a significant road construction project just a few miles north, plus all those lanes reduce to two each way. The bottleneck is the main problem here.

We're going to have 75-90 mph winds up here. I don't know what those people will be doing.

The good news is that the highways south of the city are empty.

"Those are the critters trying to get inside your house to ride out the hurricane with you."

I was afraid of that. I already know that there is a cricket in the living room.

They will try. They will fail. The evacuation routes are marked *very* clearly and far more often than they were in LA, and we'll get everyone out before the storm gets in.

There are a few legitimate criticisms, but they're all really minor and are judgement calls. What I think the MSM is going to do is start making excuses for LA when the inevitable comparisons are made.

No, we just thought you were a hippie.

Texas has a few hippie reservations, but we really hate them otherwise.

Hold on to your pocketbooks, it's going to get ugly and the MSM will drive it. This thing should be wakeup call for all of us. The MSM is not our friend.

I've heard local news reporters ask people "Who do you blame?" several times today. And the storm hasn't even arrived.

They are...I expect one or the other to go to UTM any day now.

Somehow a Lib has snuck in there and has bungled things all up...as they are wont to do...

That's just typical gubmint work :-)

...speaking of which...

didja see Blanco trying to play like Gen. Honore today?

"If you're going to remain behind, stencil your social security number on your arm on indelible ink."

Blinking up a storm, couldn't look at the camera....heck...I'm surprised she didn't break into tears.

I missed that as I was glued to TWC. She just wants to make it easier for her people to know who they can claim to be when the ballot boxes are stuffed.

Lesson, think for yourself, NEVER let government do your thinking. I got fooled for an hour or two, I have learned my lesson. Thousands maybe hundreds of thousands will be standed on Texas highways as Rita rolls in. Horrible situation, I can not imagine how bad that is going to be.
