Hurricane Rita Live Thread, Part V
NHC - NOAA ^ | 22 September 2005 | NHC - NOAA

Posted on 09/22/2005 5:44:09 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Category Four Hurricane Rita continues to move toward landfall along the northwest Gulf of Mexico shoreline. Mandatory and voluntary evacuations continue across Texas and Louisiana coastal areas. Lake Charles LA is providing evacuations by bus for residents who have no transportation.

Traffic gridlock in the greater Houston area was compounded by gasoline stations without fuel, long lines at those stations still carrying fuel, and record breaking temperatures on the first day of autumn.

Offshore drilling platforms and rigs, as well as oil refineries, petrochemical and natural gas plants are in the path of the storm. Wave heights recorded by buoy have exceeded 38 feet. The refineries threatened by Hurricane Rita are on higher ground than those affected by flooding from Katrina. As a result, speculation abounds regarding future prices for winter heating fuel and gasoline.

How long must we endure their lies and hatred without fighting back!

We must endure them until the Kingdom comes to fruition. Then all the chaff will be burned.

Every time one of them opens its mouth, all I hear is the voice of the antichrist, ranting and raging and spewing lies in his all-consuming and implaccable hatred of Truth.

Haha LOLOL I am taking 105 into Montgomery and turning onto 1488 from there. Its supposed to run into the woodland and there is another road called Gosling that runs into Research Forest, which is where I have to be.

You have reason to be concerned....some friends of ours who turned back to Houston arrived in their neighborhood to see thugs breaking into all their neighbor's boarded up houses....the looting has already started! Such a thin veneer over our "polite society"....already cracking. Too bad our National Guard is stretched too thin to be patrolling there and nail some of them...set an example!

Tell me about it. I drive a suburban and we went to see my son in Calif. It was like bullets going around me and the lanes were so narrow that the lines were almost touching each tire. Scary. How do they breath?

No real change from the 1700 track.

The vortex data runs about 3 miles SW of the Hurricane Center's plots, on every storm. Not a real problem, but I wish one or the other would define a standard and both would either use D.DD or DM.MM format.

Flipping back and forth either takes forever or else limits how many windows I can have open.

God, yes! There isn't an equal to it anywhere else that I'm aware of. And they're some of the best maintained roads in general.

As bad as all this is we ain't seen nothing yet. The knee jerk and blowback will be awesome. There will be massive construction for evac routes out of all major cities. Think about Denver, you have a hard time even when it's not rush hr.

Hold on to your pocketbooks, it's going to get ugly and the MSM will drive it. This thing should be wakeup call for all of us. The MSM is not our friend.

Acutally, they'll push for mega-fleets of buses, light rail and commuter rail before they push for more road spending (never mind that Nagin left all his buses flooded).

When I lived in Texas, I almost always took Texas secondary roads...more interesting, and nicer drives a lot of the time than the interstates....

Being in a strong hurricane is a bizarre experience. It's not easily forgotten.

Could that be because, unlike Texas, other states have things like grass, water and hills. The last time I was west of San Antonio and north of I-10 I saw more rattlesnakes than trees.

JUST KIDDING

I'll be over there in Dec. Just make sure all the limbs an' stuff are picked up when I get there. Don't want the place looking tacky.
