Folks, I'm sorry for the semi-vanity post, but THIS NEEDS TO GET OUT THERE. Tell your friends. Tell your family. Tell perfect strangers. Tell everyone. Frankly, I'm absolutely stunned that this isn't the top article on every single news site. I'm stunned that the blogosphere isn't buzzing about nothing else. Why hasn't this gotten the attention it deserved?
In short: the Louisiana Department of Homeland Security BLOCKED THE RED CROSS from bringing desperately needed food, water, and supplies to the Superdome and the Convention Center. This was done to deliberately make conditions worse. Why? Because they wanted people to evacuate, and I guess they figured that if the people there had the luxury of, say, CLEAN WATER, they'd be less likely to leave. So they made a willful decision to starve and dehydrate the people in the Superdome so they'd be miserable enough to leave... or, if they were weak, miserable enough to die, as a few of them did.
I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP. Check the Red Cross site:
Hurricane Katrina: Why is the Red Cross not in New Orleans?
- The state Homeland Security Department had requested--and continues to request--that the American Red Cross not come back into New Orleans following the hurricane. Our presence would keep people from evacuating and encourage others to come into the city.
Governor Blanco doesn't deserve electoral defeat. She doesn't deserve impeachment. She deserves to sit in prison for the rest of her life... or to hang by the neck until dead for inflicting on Americans what would be considered an atrocity if Americans inflicted it on anyone else.
And while this was going on, both the Mayor and the Governor were crying, "Where is the food? Where is the water?" The food and the water were sitting on trucks which were prevented from delivering them by the State of Louisiana.
Tell everybody.
There were 2 kinds of debit cards. One the Red Cross was handing out that was $250 - whatever...depending on family size. That is the one that was being handed out today as I understood it. The Fed's postponed the $2000 debit cards, but didn't say why......I suspect the problems discussed are why.
They are doing the same thing again. I heard them say that if the people left there won't evacuate now that no food of water will be delivered to them, period. Do you see Babs screaming about this? Is the media actually questioning how they could dare starve the people? Is racism being suggested? Heck no, it is still Bush's fault!
See my tagline.
Hugh Hewitt had Major Garrett on today and yesterday regarding this bombshell, which he dropped on 'Special Report With Brit Hume.
...And of course, since Fox broke the story, the MSM just thinks it's all propaganda for the Bush Administration.
What I meant to post was 'see my Freeper name'.
;^)
I'm not a Republican either, but I play one on Free Republic. Every time I give a Republican even mild criticism here I'm accused of being a troll.
Yes, I understand your position, but... He prolly figured there was no way the good people of Norlins would have elected a Republican, so jumping on to the donk plantation was the only way he'd get into office there.
Put a D after his name or an R after his name and he still is an incompetent boob who killed people and tried to shift the blame.
I suppose he could have used all of the buses in the city and ditched his population on the border of his jurisdiction, telling them to walk across the line, but beyond that, physically evacuating people in his city would have required Blanco and/or the state's legislators to do more than just put all kinds of power in her hands.
You don't need a governor's permission to travel through her state. Nagin could've taken that enormous fleet of buses, more than 500 strong, and sent them to 20 or so major cities all across the country. Evacuees could have chosen a bus headed for a destination where they had family or friends or just thought would be a good place to wait out the storm. I bet every one of the people who ended up in the Superdome or the Convention Center would have voluntarily jumped on a deal like that.
Anyway, I think his political career is dead, so if he switched parties, it would free him up to spill everything he knows about the graft & corruption going on in that state, which is why I think an attempt should be made to lure him off of the plantation.
If there really is graft and corruption that he's a part of, switching parties wouldn't free him up to do dick, since he'd be exposing himself to criminal liability. All switching parties would do would be to allow Democrats to blame his staggering incompetence on the GOP -- alleging that Nagin had been a closet Republican all along.
By the way, to the people who are still reading this thread (I'm too lazy to try to ping you all :), I've updated my blog with more on the depraved indifference of Blanco and Nagin, and the heroic response by the federal government.
ROFL .......... and dead people can vote more than once.
;-)
Bump
Generally, individuals can travel through the state, but once disaster has been declared, a whole different set of rules kick in. Think about it, what if something dangerous was in the evacuation route. Next, let some local authority select that route. A government actor (parish level authority) has to be given authority from the state to send people through the state. Local authorities only have control over the roads within their jurisdiction.
Nagin could've taken that enormous fleet of buses, more than 500 strong, and sent them to 20 or so major cities all across the country. Evacuees could have chosen a bus headed for a destination where they had family or friends.
By what authority? Where was authority given to him to even negotiate sending NO citizens all over the country or to even send people to a city in another parish?
http://www.legis.state.la.us/lss/lss.asp?doc=85673
§727. Powers of the parish president; penalties for violations
(6) Prescribe routes, modes of transportation, and destinations in connection with evacuation within the local government's jurisdiction.
As far as who was in charge of shared agreements with other parishes within LA see here:
§730. Interjurisdictional homeland security and emergency preparedness agency
http://www.legis.state.la.us/lss/lss.asp?doc=85676
Says they can bring help *in* from another parish within the state, but I don't see anything there which allows a parish level authority to send any citizens out & to another parish.
To see how a *state* can ship it's citizens to another state, see here:
§733. Interstate Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Compact

WHAT!
Media buas bump.
I listened to President Bush during the swearing in ceremony of Karen Hughes this morning. He said how important it was to counter the lies of the terrorists' propaganda machine, and to counter immediately.
IMO, his administration needs to do the exact same thing and counter the lies of domestic terrorists that in large measure make up the Democrat Party and Old Media. And it needs to counter quickly and aggressively. It's way past time to slap these traitors upside the head.
BTTT. good post......
Now...
But they really left a bad taste in my mount after 9-11.
What, exactly, did they do after 9-11 that left a bad taste in your mouth?
Then there is stuff like this: http://www.rense.com/general67/redcr.htm
I got as far as this:
The American Red Cross or the International Red Cross, like the International Monetary Fund (IMF) or the World Bank, is an Illuminati-controlled front organization whose true purpose is completely opposite from their stated purpose.
(the first paragraph, as it happens) before I stopped reading. "Illuminati-controlled front organization"? C'mon. Look, there may well be legitimate criticisms to be made of the Red Cross, and I'd love to hear them. But the ARC as a front for a sinister world-girding conspiracy? Be serious.
Marsha Evans makes $450,000/year.
She manages an organization with over three billion dollars a year in revenues and expenses. I don't know much about Evans's qualifications, but I would certainly hope that the board of directors would hire a competent chief executive to manage that kind of money... and offer a salary attractive enough to recruit such a capable executive.
Compare that to the CEO of the Salvation Army.
What is it? I don't know, because as a religious organization the Salvation Army does not have to file the same forms as the Red Cross. I don't have time to do a whole lot of digging, but a cursory look at Charity Navigator, Guide Star, and the Internation Salvation Army's own home page didn't reveal that information.
The Red Cross also had "Administrative expenses" on the order of $170 million. Maybe I'm just some poor white trash, but that is a huge amount of money to me.
That's about five percent of total expenses. Over 90% of the money the Red Cross spends goes to program expenses.
Again, there might be a good case to be made against the Red Cross. If there is, I'd love to see it made, so I know not to financially support them next time. But so far I've seen smearing and innuendo, but precious few facts.
just as I suspected
ssshhhh! FR has so few cyber brawls. ;>
Come on, just kidding... even someone like YOU should know that. (another attempt at a cyberbrawl perhaps? only time will tell, yes?)
