I think that's crazy. Passing over Scalia/Thomas is crazy. Giving the CJ to an unknown factor is crazy.
This is form over function as far as I can tell: expediency in the nominating process is not nearly as important as the outcome of a lifetime appointment.

Youth is a top priority on all picks!
You got that right. We need young original intent judges to protect and defend our Constitution for the long term.

Interesting contrast of the Chucks.
Chuck Todd right on the money, Chuck Schumer still a dummy.
Today Chuck Schumer the quintessential pseudo-intellectual put fought his choice for Chief Justice. Chuck things the President should appoint Justice Sandra Day O'Conner to act as CJ for an interim period of 1 year.

I had read that Scalia would resign if he didn't get chief justice. I think this is a slap in the face to both he and Thomas.
They are big boys. They can pout some other time. They most likely were never going to be chosen based upon historical precedent where only three [3] sitting AJs have been elevated to the CJ position.

Barf Alert! Sandy wishes she could be CJ for a year...

I agree. The stuff you find in regular clothing outlets are made to portray our young girls as sluts, and the boys as machomen. Give me uniforms any time! Kids behave better in uniforms.

I would not be upset by a Scalia resignation.
We can not assume that we will have conservative Presidents elected as far as the eye can see.
The more young conservatives on the Supreme Court, the better.
Anyone who wants to retire (whether a conservative or a liberal justice) while Bush can pick their replacement has my support.

I hope you're right. Scalia's one of the good guys!

I never realized that the CJ had to also go through those disgusting hearings. I don't wonder Thomas didn't want it. Once is enough for anyone. I just pray Dubya is making the right choice. If the loony left is worried, that's probably good enough for me.

Now, he should nominate Janice Rogers Brown for O'Connor's position (since she's already made it through h@ll once, and they have no way to castigate her again for no reason.) and since she's an excellent jurist (and also in the mold of Scalia and Thomas) she's be great!

The kids in Baltimore who go to some of the public schools wear uniforms. The performance and behavior in these schools is superior to the usual public schools. I wonder if the uniforms change the child or the chance to attend a school with structure attracts kids who will succeed no matter what. Either way, it is a great idea.

I thought it was exceptional fo have a Chief Justice named from outside the court. That seems to be more reasonable too.

It's exceptional to have a Chief Justice named from INSIDE the court.
(A fact that most of us clearly didn't know...........I'm giving myself the excuse that I was a lot younger when Rehnquist was chosen, and can't remember that it was HE who was the exception).

Scalia or Roberts for top dog?....Long term strategy for best conservative verdicts?...
Personally don't have enough validated information to decide...
Just glad both will be on it.
