"CNN dropping their coverage of Katrina like a hot potato. Screw all those poor suffering African-Americans; loss of control of the levers of justice to enact their Marxist agenda is FAR more important to CNN."
Libertarian444, that was a very insightful post that deserves repeating, in bold.

Just to weigh in (as if my humble opinion matters to the President): You've got to go with Scalia. It's not "traditional" to promote from within, but he's earned it and he's the anchor.
I could understand the sentiment to go with Justice Thomas, but I believe Justice Scalia has already been doing the kinds of things you'd want from a CJ, and I fear another Thomas hearing.
Chief Rehnquist made this job his life's work, and truly a lifetime appointment.

Better question....can the news media handle it!The jackals in the MSM will now move on a bit from Katrina, to the Rehnquist death and replacement, which in truth, will benefit Bush, what with the absurd beating Bush has taken this week in the media.

I agree.
He was a good conservative soldier who died with his boots on.

Clement's record as a consitutionalist, is almost non-existent. as I recall, her background is in maritime law issues? I recall that Mark Levin was not high on Clement when she was the rumored pick. But Edith Jones is a winner (I'm simply convinced she would be awesome.)

Two things: first, O'Connor has not resigned. She has announced that she plans to resign pending replacement. She is still on the court.
Second: contrary to what many here have said I think this is good news for the liberals. It is going to be much harder work to confirm two of what the media will call "conservatives" (Roberts and one other who may actually be conservative). And the talk of Chief Justice Scalia or Thomas? I really don't think so. That would mean three confirmation hearings fighting against Chuck and the RINOs. Hope I'm wrong.
