It is a barrier. We don't want armed thugs that slipped through the cracks in LA to get out into the wild in Texas to ravage our state. We don't need that, we don't want that, and it's not going to happen if we do what makes sense.
There have already been multiple arrests of wanted and escapees from NO in TX at the screening points. Check this and other threads for info as to other stuff.
We are *NOT* going to tolerate foolishness.
Once the refugees are cleared through the checkpoint, they are wrmly welcomed by cheerful sympathetic aid workers who say something like "Welcome to Texas! Sorry about that, but you understand that we have to take precautions after everything that's gone on. What do you need? How can we help?"
Well, there is gastritis, gastroenteritis and infectious gastroenteritis. The last form falls in the infectious disease category along with Hepatitis, Aids, TB, etc.

They are doing regular updates to it, and it's giving an amazing view of post-apocalyptic New Orleans.
From early this morning:
Ok, gonna go get some sleep.
Last update for the night. Lots of police patrolling in their cars tonight, shining those high intensity spotlights at anyone on the street. The only civilians out are the homeless, one of whom you've all seen on the cam day after day -- the guy who set up his little stolen clothes shop on the sidewalk under the Pan Am building. We've got four regulars out there now -- the guy I just mentioned, a drunk who carries a cane and beats on every object he passes, a woman who wears a leather skirt and thinks everyone is a cop and offers herself for arrest, and her man who basically yells at her all day. At least the police aren't bothering them. I hope they can get some professional help, but I'm sure that's unlikely.
Oh well, hopefully things will continue to improve. It would be nice to have some pleasant news to report.
We have to welcome them this way. We will not tolerate the violent horsesh*t the way that NO does. And these people have been in extremely unsanitary conditions, the hypo-allergenic gloves are blue. No symbolism in it. We are not so naive as to think that all of these folks evacuated from the church choir section. We will seperate the vicious ones from everyone else. It is the right thing to do. Anyone that has an issue with how we welcome these folks to Texas, is encouraged to pound sand.
Just our way of saying "Howdy! Welcome Yall! But just in case you've got any unfriendly ideas, we just want yall to know DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS"
"Whoraldo wading through the muck in New Orleans. What a showboat. What is that supposed to prove? "
Ummmm.. Maybe he wants to get sick and die live on FOX News? That would REALLY be "taking one for the team." :)
Do you actually think there will BE any hearings? I doubt it...the Dems, although they are the MINORITY, hold too much sway. They have the MSM on their side 24/7.
thank you a thousand times ;0)
Exactly. I believe that there is plenty of space on the buses going back to LA for people who object to common sense.
God bless Texans, with their big heart, for their fellow man.
Exactly. And juries here in texas lllooooovvveee to send scum to death row without batting an eye,,,

Incredible pics... thanks for posting the link.
According to an NPR story yesterday, "Many who fled flooded New Orleans for shelter in Houston's Astrodome are already eyeing potential jobs and considering making Houston their new home. Will evacuation turn into immigration?"
Help me out here. I am trying to remember if Dingle is a senator or congressman and if he is Dem or Republican.
Has anyone else heard that he is going to introduce a bill Tuesday to separate FEMA from Homeland Security and have the head of FEMA in a cabinet position?
Per Fox News.

BTTT
But the chemicals/topxins in the water can ruin the dogs' scent abilities, can't it?
It dose seem that there may have been an excess of bureaucracy; on the other hand, this is such a huge disaster than any reasonable system might have temporarily broken down. I believe there are valid reasons for putting FEMA under DHS, but, as you say, it is probably too early to make that judgment.
