President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.

Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

There was no plan to get people on buses out of the city. See the pictures of what 50-60 school buses under water. How many more are like that? The city did crap pre-storm. Smart people left. It is sad. People were screaming at Ray pre-storm, virtually, to get the job done. There was a major crisis of leadership.

... Somebody better remind the thugs we have the death penalty in Texas and we use it liberally.

On second thought ... is it unfair to assume they know how to behave?

Aaron Brown makes me want to throw something at my TV so I switched him off. I cannot stand that smug, arrogant, know it all.

He really is a disgusting human being. He just can't wait to blame the entire disaster on President Bush. He doesn't even make a vague attempt to hide it.

When they interview the survivors and ask them why they stayed at some point the phrase, "I didn't think that..." comes out of their mouth. They need to terminate that sentence with simply "I didn't think."

Orleans Parish has the worst public education system in the nation. That is an assertion not hyperbole.

Picking up people at local elementary schools with school buses is a great idea--everyone knows where they are. Has anyone noticed that most of those left behind seem to be poor and probably don't own cars?

One man said he was caring for his elderly mother and how could they get out? He couldn't leave her.I'm sure he wasn't an exception. Also I heard that the buses had been taken out of service, but I don't know if that is true or not.

"In New Orleans the rail road tracks are washed out in places. They were showing this on WWL streaming."

I was telling people before the storm hit to "use empty freight trains", but now they can bus the evacuees to clear track and turn the buses back around to pick up more. Put food and supplies into the box cars and you won't need any encouragement to have them get on the train, also.

I don't think I have ever witnessed so many incompetent people in one place in my life from the Governor to the Mayor to the parish officials. Lack of brainpower is staggering.

Prayers for strength needed - My friend Don is an Air force LTCOL currently serving our country in Iraq. His parents live in Slidell and lost everything. They are all ok, but his childhood home is completely gone. Please pray for them and this brave soldier in the war zone feeling helpless so far away to be able to help his family. Thanks.

If she had not been hit by that puff of dry air, we might not have a looting problem. And if there are 150,000 - 200,000 people in that city...

The mayor and governor was willing to let a CAT5 into his city with 150,000 people in it.

People are going to be ANGRY. I already am.

I don't know- I don't even know what's happened in Hattiesburg, thirty minutes south of Jones County. There just isn't any communication, no local radio stations or TV, absoluely no cell phone service. Stations that are operating- out of places north of I-20, such as where I am tonight- have been getting tons of phone calls from people wanting to know about certain towns or communities, but nobody really knows anything. The only communication working in most of South Mississippi is satellite phone.

And then big media, which can transmit stuff, only focuses on big places, not the smaller towns and communities.

And that could possibly be only one school district. There are probably more of those buses sitting around NO.

They must have missed some neighborhoods or skipped the poor ones based on the scene in the streets.

Speaking of leadership, I was watching TWC and Jim Cantore and his partner commented at how the Mayor of Gulfport "rocked" and they were excited at how he seemed to be leading the people left in the community. Stark difference from NO.

It finally occurred to me why the NO mayor looked so inept. I've been mentally comparing him with Gulianni on 9/11. That's the kind of leadership NO needs right now.

I saw the same thing; told my husband it looked like a scene out of Gone With the Wind when Scarlett returned to the farm towards the end of the war and her mother had died and her father wasn't all there... everyone needed her to tell them what to do... this was an echo of that... and sent chills down my spine that this has been allowed to happen 140 years after the Civil War.

There is a woman, Paula, on WWL from Saint Bernard parish begging for any help. Food, water, the whole parish is under water.

This is just so incredibly frustrating. These poor folks.
