The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

How many Cruise ships actually fly the AMERICAN flag, any more?? Even Taking over a Bahamian ship, like one of the Carnivals, would be an act of war...

"I turned off CNN after Cafferty opened his vial mouth."

Yea, that is when I switched too. Cindy almost drove me to look for the remote, but Cafferty was too much.

How seaworthy are the recently decommissioned Navy ships? I know they're too far away, but the USS Texas is at San Jacinto State Park in Houston, the USS Hornet is at the old Alameda Naval Air Station in Oakland. Any other ships nearby that still float?

How about all those cruise ships that moor in Miami?

Ok, tell him to firewall the throttles. We also need a central information to where we can give donations and I have also noticed that several people have mentioned that they are willing to give space in their homes.

There are levees down along lake ponchartrain in the main bowl, which would get the water up to sea level in it, or maybe a foot above, but now the pics show the water 4 feet above sea level in the main bowl. Thus the Mississippi, which is 14 feet above sea level, must be flooding in, and presumably the water is flowing through NO into Lake Ponchatrain, and the Missisippi has found a new channel to the sea, right through beautiful downtown NO. I think that about sums it up. Maybe somebody should tell the networks to read this post.

You are very much correct. The Industrial Canal lock SEEMS to be missing and may have been opened to let the river water from the St. Bernard side equalize things....but I cannot fathom the east side of the Industrial Canal with 20 ~ 30 feet of water over EVERYTHING(up to the canal levee). Glad I have memories, photos, and videos of "how it was"..

Updates as they come in on Katrina

04:42 PM CDT on Tuesday, August 30, 2005

Tom Planchet

4:42 P.M. - (AP) Electric companies from around the country are rushing crews to the hurricane-ravaged South. They will help restore power to an area so devastated that it could be weeks or even months before the lights come back on in many places. David Botkins, a spokesman for Dominion Virginia Power, says 200 workers are headed to Louisiana and Mississippi.

4:40 P.M. - (AP) State officials say they are working on plans to evaucate inmates from the Orleans Parish prison and the Jefferson Parish jail. Both facilities face a threat of flooding.

The state Corrections Department is trying to figure out how to transfer 4,000 inmates from the New Orleans jail and another 1,000 from the Jefferson Parish jail in Gretna.

The inmates would be moved to state prisons including the highest-security at Angola. Corrections spokesman Pam LaBorde says it's quite a logistical situation to accomplish.

4:23 P.M. - Jefferson Parish officials say schools could reopen two months after Labor Day.

4:21 P.M. - WWL-TV Reporter quotes officials as saying there may now be 60,000 people in the Superdome and that more people are still being urged to go there.

3:59 P.M. - WWL-TV reporter Jonathan Betz reports widespread looting and WWL-TV cameras showed people walking out of Canal Street stores with racks of clothes and electronics. Some looters concentrated on basics and supplies, while others made no secret of their desire to get what they could.

If you remember last year when there were two hurricanes in a row that his Florida...

President Bush, Laura and daughters went to Florida..passed out water and iced...checked out the situation.

He was FLAMED by the dems and media for going because they said he was taking up valuable people that were needed in the clean up, to guard him...

Pres. Bush will NEVER do anything right for a lot of Americans.

His tone of voice was very pertinant to his speech: "Where is Bush?" (Wolf announces he's in San Diego) "Oh it's nice that he came off vacation. . ." his voice was spilling over with sarcasm. I sent an email to CNN calling him a maggot - I believe he's the first asshole liberal that I've heard bring anti-Bush politics into the middle of this tragedy.

The rain water from that part of the Country ends up in the Mississippi River after all the streams run off into rivers like the Ohio River.

I understand river is much higher then lake or sea level, guess if water keeps rising then we do have a river breach, don't see how, short of Mississippi changing course things could get any worse.
