The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Waaaaaait a minute. I thought the river levees held. If they didn't, then this just went from bad to worse to "we're rebuilding it twenty miles inland."
Where's Uptown? Anybody got a map?

Matthews comes onto MSNBC, saying "President Bush cut short his vacation to return to Washington..."
.
If the lake water is rising to meet the river, it's bad news. Water going down is good news.
was there 6 years ago was a wonderful place old homes and wonderful people
Message on another board that looters have taken over Tulane MED Center??
Can anyone confirm/Deny?
I am turning off CNN, that clown mccafferty is on.
The doers are coming to town. Thanks to Pres Bush.
It took action on part of president to encourage a mandatory evacuation.
Also, I think Gov Barbour might be out of a job soon, forced to resign. Mandatory evacuations came to late or were not enforced it seems in MS thereby costing thousands of lives it would appear.
New Orleans is second only to Boston for historic places on the National Register. It's worth saving. IMHO
sorry, but the prisoner situatuion is a disaster waiting to happen.....
no telling how many slipped away last night...they were apparently left on overpasses in groups for the last 24 hours, no one knowing for sure where to take them....
He is telling the truth -- the moron Governor had not asked for them to take over so they were back-up only. Until she makes the request, they cannot take over.
And the drivers are pretty happy too, cuz they're not underwater in NO.
Where did you hear about the C130? Lock and load!
The Mississippi is several feet higher than Lake Pontchartrain. I don't know how the lake could be "rising to meet the river" unless the lake was exceptionally high (which it is) and the river is exceptionally low? And in any case, I thought all the river levees on both banks held?

We can still be selective..........LOL
France, Germany, NATO, Russia have all offered help.
So has Venezula. :-)
This has probably already been posted, but an associate of mine has a friend in Northern Louisiana who was en route to NOLA with his boat in order to help. Law enforcement stopped him on the highway and made him turn back. Those with boats are now being shot, and the boats are being "boatjacked".
