I can't believe a smart senator and a congressman don't hold a joint press conference and say they are cutting THEIR vacation short to file legislation for immediate consideration to open ANWR to drilling. Demand a fast track vote and get everyone on record while prices are so high. It is time to think and act like a majority.

Like the Senators & Congresspersons from Alaska? What a great idea!

You think Texas will want all them hardheaded coona$$es who don't know when to get out of the way? Maybe they'll take Shreveport, though...

Children Of Hurricane Refugees May Enroll In Texas Schools

Gov. Rick Perry announced Wednesday that Texas school districts will enroll children of Hurricane Katrina refugees sheltered within each district.

Perry made the announcement during a ceremonial signing of an eminent-domain bill passed during the recent Legislature.

Perry and Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco agreed Wednesday to a plan that would move at least 25,000 Hurricane Katrina refugees from New Orleans to Houston.

Most of the refugees are sweltering in the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans.

The plan calls for them to be moved to Houston's Astrodome, where they would be sheltered temporarily until better accommodations can be found.

.“In the face of such tragic circumstances, we all have to pull together so these families have as much normalcy as possible during these difficult times,” Perry said.

Perry said the Texas Education Agency has been directed to provide all needed support for districts having to absorb the additional children from Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

He said Texas wants to do all it can to comfort children who have "almost overnight been uprooted from their daily routines."

The TEA said the refugee children can qualify as "homeless" and may enroll without proof of residence.

“I want stranded families to know the doors of Texas’ public schools are immediately open to your school-aged children,” Perry said.

“I also want school leaders to know that we realize this will put a strain on their capacity, so I have asked the Texas Education Agency to work them to make sure they have the textbooks they need, funding for transportation and the free-and-reduced lunch program and class size waivers as needed.”

If no id is found on a corpse, I would assume dental records are the only way.

Assuming dental records are available (probably not) and assuming they have the means to rapidly match hundreds of teeth against thousands of dental records.

I would like to see an executive order curbing unnecessary travel. That would, of course, include Cindy Sheehan's bus tour.

I'd like it limited to that :-)

Can't they use DNA if there are relatives available for comparison? I would imagine a lot of dental records in the affected areas might be gone.

There's not going to be time for any of that in this one, I fear. If reports are true and we're talking "thousands" in MS and Louisiana -- while rescuers have trouble even getting through for days -- we are looking at mass burials.

He said that all of these libs that regard the National Guard as a place for "draft dodgers" sure are anxious and grateful for their service now, aren't they?

I was watching CNN and Cindy Sheehan's commercial ran. She came off as completely and ridiculously self-absorbed. Then, they get back to the coverage and show the heroics of the National Guardsmen that Cindy Sheehan so obviously hates. The contrast could not be more stark.

I would think technology would allow for taking a DNA sample from the corpse, tagging it and keeping track of how the body was disposed and handle the ID matching after the fact.
