The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

If it's only rising 1" per hour, that's not so bad. Granted it's not getting any better, but it was coming up almost a foot an hour after the levee broke.

The question still is, with the pumping system all but destroyed, how do they get all that water out? Portable pumps from FEMA, I guess. That and a lot of time.

We have apparently heard from Iran - something about paying us back for rebuilding Bam after the earthquake.

That was a joke.

All service branches have contributed choppers, they have about 30 up at a time. (Fox remarked that they really did need any more)

Louis Armstrong airport now open for humanitarian flights. (daylight hours only) Portable generators are now up at the terminals.

Cwiz,

NASA is reporting no injuries at Stennis. They also report that some buildings sustained undetermined amounts of water and roof damage. Focusing on equipment, main engine test stands are undamaged. I would take all that to be a pretty good sign for those who took refuge at Stennis.

Also NASA-related, CNN reports that the Michoud facility on the east side of New Orleans (where external tanks are built) suffered some water and wind damage, but the water there has receded and the site is now dry. Michoud is on the other side of the Inner Harbor Navigation Canal from downtown New Orleans.

Well, they are ideal bugout vehicles, except for their short range and poor fuel economy. They're simple, if it breaks down you can take parts off of abandoned Fords, GMs, and Chryslers to make it run again, and it can definitely run offroad if needed.
