The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Germany has offered assistance with the aftermath of the hurricane.
and the anti-gun peopel will be crawling out of the woodwork too.
Is this a real call or is it a seminar caller. I have noticed on the radio after the hurrican, there were people constantly trying to slip in Bush bashing. Could this be no different?
Fascinating presser update for the hospital evacuations. Patients are being airlifted from NOLA hospitals to the airport for triage and staging. Case-by-case, will be transported to other hospitals.
If the airport is open, that opens the gates for aid to begin to come in, finally. Remember, up until now there's basically been ONE way into the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain, including New Orleans, and that was I-10 from the west. I-10 from the east is trashed (the bridge from Slidell) and the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway probably isn't safe to handle heavy vehicles.
Right now the aid workers and public safety folks are hamstrung by a near-total lack of communications. Their radio networks are destroyed, radio batteries are dying, cellphones are dead, landlines are dead...they're out of contact with almost everything and everybody. Information's almost as important as water right now, and they aren't able to get any.

Yeah, I saw the map earlier on the thread. It's no wonder, it's all coastal areas.
I think it was the other way around. The grown-ups showed up and made her irrelevant - much to the relief of those hit hardest by this disaster.

Why do these folks on FOX keep worrying about it?
NO is not going to be functional until Engineers get the water out. They are not going to even start on getting the water out till they stop it from coming in. They are not going to make a serious effort to stop the water from coming in till they get ALL of the people to safety.
WHat is so damned hard to understand here? I keep hearing reporters (on all channels) blather on about time tables of getting back in to NO.
You have to wonder about the IQ of some of these reporters.

You'll need more than one gun (one for every family mrmber that can safely manage one). You will also want an SUV or truck that is actually offroad-capable to climb over the rubble and wreckage.
Something like that is why I bought my Jeep Grand Wagoneer to supplement my Jaguar and Z.
update,,everyone in a meeting. The field house at LSU had some criticallly ill people, some from the dome, they are sending them out to hospitals. FEMA has taken charge so I don't know what is happening. We wait on the meeting to have someone tell us where to go.
Just write the city off. Get those guys trying to plug an unfillable hole over to help with evacuation.
Also, reporting on the looters seiging Children's Hospital. Looters have also broken into cars outside Tulane Hospital. Jefferson Parish confirming 5 dead.
I don't think they comprehend the breadth of this. They have to get everyone out and figure out what to do about the dams. That will take ages and then they have to decide how and when to reconstruct them. Then they pump.
I dunno, it seems like too much to do. It just seems overwhelming.
