The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

I'm not yelling at you. It is so frustrating to be sitting here and not being able to do anything. I want to get in my car, buy all the water I can find between here and there and just go.

Diabetics will start dying today, imo. No refrigeration or medication available. The elderly, if they are dehydrated in this heat, are in serious trouble.
It's not more than 48 hours before disease sets in with that water.
Meanwhile, the Governor attended a prayer service. She should be coordinating with doctors and buses and getting those folks off the bridges and getting them hydrated and fed.
A Jefferson Parish deputy sheriff, whose father just called the Glenn Beck radio program, said the looting gangs are using snipers to keep police at bay.
Sounds like the LA and NO administrations were right on top of this one, no?
CNN: Airport now being used solely for relief supplies. Officials say routine commercial and general aviation traffic will not be flying in and out until November.

How are people getting dialysis? I have a s-i-l who goes 3X a week and would be very sick after 1 or 2 missed treatments.

That is a scary thought. It is one of the scariest scenarios I can think of. Psychotic is the descriptive term I use.
Same thing during the NYC blackout 2 years ago. Looting after dark was a major concern of officials. Fearing the worst, everyone walked miles to get out of the city and make their way home before nightfall. Thankfully the looting never happened and people helped co-workers and neighbors get through it all. I'm just focusing on the looting aspect -- there is, of course, no comparison between the blackout and the hell the people of the Gulf coast are suffering through right now.

I think the ACLU lost. They were suing, IIRC, because they said the Salvation Army was not non-profit...tough luck, because the SA truly is a non-profit, religious organization--similar in beliefs to Wesleyans & Nazarenes. The upper eschelon does NOT skim money from donations, or takes very little.

WWL-TV: Gas prices expected to be raised to 50-75 cents per gallon by this weekend north of the Mason Dixon line and 1.10 to 1.25 in the South.
WWLTV has done yeoman's work getting the info out - all the while, they are in the same situation as their neighbors. Kudos to them all.
