The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Seems like CNN is still really the only 24/7 news channel. The other ones have special shows that also replay late at night.

That's news to me, everytime I pass by CNN in the evening I see either the one guy holding up tomorrow's front pages of various newspapers or Nancy Grace's mug talking about Natalie Holloway.

"Where is the global relief for us"

No other countries offer to help us.

Not even after 9/11.

Except for the one middle eastern guy that offered Rudy G. ten million and Rudy told him to "Stuff it" (basically.)

Check. Just finished looking it some old USCOE levee maps of that area.

Other pics do show water flowing into NOLA. This one does not.

I have friends in BC who are very pro-American

It's like a different world, between the west and the east, and I just happened to find myself in the worst spot for a conservative American: Quebec. :)

It was streaming video from 4WWL news.

Since no one can begin clean-up, powers that be could get crews to the older model truck/shipping containers (there are thousands in fields across the USA) to cut in doors and windows, pipes, plumbing and roof a/c, etc... Transport to best locale be it parks or fields for temporary housing. Mexicans have been doing this for years and it works--it's far better than being homeless or living in a shelter.
We can support this effort by donations of used furniture, bedding, appliances, grills and such (we all have extra "stuff" we can share for the hurricane victims.

Those I saw had shutters, a garden fence, flowers an such.
Down here in Port Charlotte, folks hit by Charley must evacuate FEMA trailers real soon but those just hit have no job/home to go back to. More are needed, why not use the resources we already have? (Recycling at it's best)

same problem as you find with a lot of earthen dams in the country. Unless you go down to bedrock and put in a strong foundation... sooner or later, nature will take it back.

The people throughout the state and region don't need hand-wringing and emotional carnage from Governor Blanco or "Miss Mary." They need leadership, direction, and some steel in their voices.

Even Ann Richards or Dixie Lee Ray would have some cajones in play.

The evacuee NPR spoke to yesterday in Shreveport was about to take her premiee to the hospital, and hadn't heard from those staying behind in NO but thought there probably was 4-8 feet of water in her house. She said the shelter was wonderful, but...
