The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Still think New Orleans dodged the bullet? I only ask cause I was badly treated by those that made that claim, while I stated it was not so, and that thank God the levies held and that was all that spared New Orleans.
They were saying 8 feet an hour and a half ago.
How does Slidell look?
In New Orleans, they seem unable to cope with being flooded, as if they never considered it could happen. Everyone seems to be shrugging their shoulders and saying, "Now what?".
In Biloxi and Gulfport, they don't have the urban-ghetto aspects to deal with to such a degree, but the devastation is so much worse.
What do you think they should be doing first? Handing out tents? Food? Water? I agree with you about the leadership stepping up, but there is a lot to coordinate too.
Fifteen feet! Wow.... so much for the looters.... can they tread water carrying a stolen TV? Seriously though.... the breach must be on a canal connecting the river to the Lake and the locks must be stuck open or something.
I'm sure it foes. How could it not? Be strong, miracles happen! And America is amazing when she is at her worst!
Yeah, but you had that guy that murdered his pregnant guy and blamed six black men for it.
It kinda trumps looters in my book of the damned, ya know?
I heard they were supposed to start moving them out in the afternoon.... Mayor Nagin is on CNN right now.. I know they move slower in the South, but this guy is WAY too laid back for the current situation they find themselves in.
30,000+ trapped in the Superdome..........
The wheels are coming off.
< NO Mayor spent Saturday night checking with lawyers to see if he could order a mandatory evacuation which he finally got around to ordering on Sunday morning. >
But they were told to leave Sat morning. He was very grim at that point. Actually, I would not have needed him to ask me, nor order me.
Glad you're fine .. praise the Lord. I have a friend whose priest cousin was going to stay in Houma for this. Have you heard anything about how Houma fared? She was told by him that it had a high elevation.
Information on the west side of Slidell.

What kind of idiot question was that???? Aaron Brown just asked the Mayor "Is the city safe tonight?" Moron! Can't believe the Mayor actually answered "is the city safe? Well, it is relatively safe considering the circumstances. It is 80% under water ..."
The poor were left behind. There was and is no plan to get them out of NO, either before or after the hurricane. I STILL have heard of no coherent plan. Incredible. They are desperate. In their situation, I would be helping myself to what I need to survive.
"To: lugsoul
"It's gonna top 200 in MS alone.
I think we'll be lucky if it doesn't top 1000."
I dread to put a number on something like this as it might come to pass.
But it is dreadful that there is no outrage that the levees failed under blue skies. "
The folks that didn't see this coming haven't thought to ask themselves why it happened yet. They ...appear...to still be in shock.
The people who did see this coming might be looking ahead right now, instead of behind.
One of the persons paid to see this coming advised a day of prayer.
Reckon that may be a nice way of saying something else?
If you are implying that the Governor has had anything to do with lives being saved, and has a plan to take care of the people in the city, you don't have a clue.
Later you are going to be madder -- trust me! She couldn't even show up at the press conference tonight because as they said she was on national shows BUT those shows were already finished. She didn't want to meet the media is my guess since she did so bad earlier today.
