The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Tropical Storm 12
MIght be the reason. Might also be that it is the slant of the media coverage. I don't know the answer. I do know that the cops are having to run in packs because of the danger presented by the looters.
thanks
Can't use busses. Water is waste deep around the SuperDome.
" Sweet Mary has already snidely suggested the president hasn't done all he could have done "
Speaking of snide- Aaron Brown is melting down-loudly yelling at correspondent - Where's the National Guard, why aren't they controlling looters ?
Reporter patiently explains that all assets are being used for rescue at the moment.
Then snidely says where is all the equipment that FEMA " claims " they have pre positioned ?
Reporter patiently explains that the roads are submerged and impassable.
It has jumped up to $2.99 here on the west side of the state (grand haven) as of 5 PM.
< oh...I thought it was given Saturday a.m., right after it was pretty certain that the hurricane was headed their way. >
You are correct.
Sending in a SWAT team to deal with looters. From WWL radio - sorry can not attribute.
I used to live in New orleans.....watching the videos of destruction on wwltv.com leaves me feeling like a piece of me has died.
Storm surge. It lifts the concrete decking sections off the structure.
Ivan did the exact same thing to I-10 over Escambia Bay near Pensacola. Repairs to that section are still ongoing, and the portions that are open have only temporary spans.
Ah. OK. thanks.

I guess You never caught my sarcasm?
You've got to be kidding me. Once the winds begin to gust over so many knots...what is it...50?...the flights are finished. The NAS at Belle Chasse flew its planes out on Saturday. The planes I know about didn't carry any passengers; so are they at fault, too?
Sheesh.
The looter footage is not just from NO.
NO Mayor spent Saturday night checking with lawyers to see if he could order a mandatory evacuation which he finally got around to ordering on Sunday morning.
Noticed that the Governor is not at the press conference -- guess her staff decided she was a hinderance and not very reassuring because the nightly news reports are over and she is still not at the press conference.
Good thought except in order to get there I have to pass by N.O.. Would be much more effective to help closer to home.
CNN showing Slidell now.
What's missing, and is a basic part of leadership, is a few short speeches listing all the things that ARE being done.
Perhaps the MSM just aren't reporting this.
One of the really rotten things about this disaster is that the victims can no longer hear instructions from authorities.
Well we already know that Dubya doesn't like using the Army Corps of Engineers on domestic infrastructure projects, like rebuilding locks, dams, levees, etc.
(A Chance to Reshape the Corps (of Engineers)
Army Corps of Engineers workers consider retirement packages )
But maybe he can persuade the Treasury to borrow a few more billion $$$ from the Chinese...
then he can turn around and "save" money by farming out the work to a massive caravan of undocumented CAFTA migrants.
It's much more "efficient" that way, you know.
He learned to do that at Harvard, so he must be a pretty shrewd businessman.
Yes.
I do. :O(
It's a fool who judges the individual by the race. Every man is his own man, just as God created him, and he stands on his own.
