The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Tropical Storm 12
Follow that with a second order to commence drilling in Alaska!
Actually, I heard on the radio that Gulfport is the only airport that isn't currently handling flights.
I disagree with any grumbling about the speed of the Federal response. Thanks to the President's leadership, FEMA was authorized to preposition relief assets.
Yes, he will. But, he can't dilly-dally around before talking to the American people.
You have heard they are already on their way?
Actually, except for the two blocks just east of Canal, the rest of Bourbon is above 5 feet in elevation according to the topo map.
Syracuse, NY area gas up 7 cents a gallon since Sunday, when I filled up.
"To: jeffers
I stayed up until the thing turned slightly to the east. Little did I guess what it would do to the Floria Parishes and the Gulf Coast eastwards. A tsunami!"
I think Nauti, Commish, and a few others recognized the potential...too much energy...it had to go somewhere.
We're not past surprises yet. The fat lady may not have even left for the theater, much less begun to sing.
"Did you know he's the only President to authorize funds with a storm 2 days out?"
Don't confuse him/her with facts ;)
Smarmy... yet ineffective. You're an engineer, aren't you?
Please don't let me get in your way. I've seen and heard of some pretty heroic work on the part of a lot of people on scene doing the best they can in an impossible situation. I refuse to belittle their efforts. But please... carry on.
Who's this LA Attorney General Charles Foti character? He's defending some looting over on Fox now.
Both the NOLA area airports are offline at this hour - either flooded or possibly undermined and not safe to use until someone can drop in by chopper and examine it.
But he didn't give the speeches everybody remembers him immediately. He had to know up from down. I know he will do that here, too.
WOW! That's a long time. I remember when they had the fires in CA, I was freaking out because it was approaching where I used to live. It is so hard to see landmarks where you live just disappear not to mention knowing people.
You will be in my thoughts and prayers through all of this.
This sounds like an old Jimmy Cagney Movie.
Be Seeing You,
Chris
The Mississippi, at its normal level, is several feet above sea level at the point where it passes New Orleans. I don't know if the Levee is broken along the NOLA/Miss boundary, but I think that water may be making its way from other Levee zones (I think there are 3, from what I read here) through canals, interior levee barriers, or maybe even the sewer system to the main section of town which includes downtown and Bourbon Street.
She sure ain't no Rudy....That's for sure.
Well duh...obviouly nobody made a sacrifice to Jobu.
I didn't know President Palmer was into voodoo...
Also - exactly so! If Bush hadn't declared early and alerted the other Fed agencies, we'd still be looking at the Feds figuring out what stuff needs to go there as opposed to rolling equipment and doing things (which is what is happening.)
