The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Tropical Storm 12
I did and want to know where the water is coming from in NO. Why would the mayor of NO talk about the city being under nine feet of water if it is not NO?
The biggest problem with a massive flotilla in a disaster like this is that the boats themselves will eventually run out of fuel -- and it isn't going to be easy to refuel them when the entire metropolitan area is out of commission.
You can't divert most of the water in the river from above BR. They have not opened the spillways yet and the river here is low. I saw the damned thing.
This is some miscommunication I do believe.
Like Sumatra.
contrast Blanco with Rudy....amazing difference
"Do You Believe in the Mean Green?"
That's funny. I was thinking that same thing earlier. LOL...Poor Cindy isn't getting much play anymore is she.
If the cops maintain order, then they can quite easily lead healthy civilians into helping the less fortunate. People can either respond to leadership or they can devolve into a mob out of fear.
I asked where is the water coming from?
someone on FNC now - if ALL pumps were operating in NO, they can pump out 1 foot per day of water. of course, the levee breeches have to be sealed first.
Drudge saying NO mayor says as high as 15 ft level of water soon.
rescued 1200 people today
.... and took them to SD .... big mistake.
Prayers for New Orleans.
Okay, down to cases. How many field combat divisions are within four days road march from New Orleans? I count two that are in-country: the 101st Air Assault Division and the Fourth Mechanized Infantry Division. Elements of the Second Marine Division at Camp LeJeune could make themselves present and accounted for, as well. IIRC, 82AB could be used as a strategic reserve.
101 is ideal here. It's heavy lift capabilities and numerous helicopter borne assets should make it the first unit to arrive on scene. Fourth Mech should be sent in as well. Bottom line: LOTS of soldiers with rifles on scene to restore order in a very visible way, and to assist in reconstruction. Only Federal troops will be able to do this.
IMHO, this operation should be turned over to Northern Command as soon as possible. If necessary, federalize Guard units from adjoining states and send them in. This is a national emergency.
Be Seeing You,
Chris
It'a about a mile NW of the superdome. The "good" news is that the water there is probably about 8 feet deep. The crimbos had better know how to swim.
The river is higher than the gulf.
It will rise to the level of the lake, I assume. Different heights in different areas, 3 feet in some places, as high as 15 in others.
probably very isolated....in every large org. there will be a few bums.
The vast majority of NO law enforcement are probably out busting their butts trying to save people, while a few jack@sses make them look bad...
Mom, the water coming into NO is from Lake Ponchatrain to the north via a 200 and now 300 ft breach in the levee coning down the 17th street canal. That has been the case for at least the last 6 hours.
