The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

I have to admit i've switched to MSNBC today. Fox was being too repetitive. I believe they are using this event as a way to catch new viewers, and are not being fair to their regular and loyal watchers like you and me. For G-ds sake how many times did I see Steve Harrigan almost get hit by a piece of roof yesterday???

The most embarrassing person in all this is that LA governor. That woman says the most inappropriate things....ugh...i can't take it.

Ironically, where are they going to take the loot? They can't stay in town, and I doubt the National Guard is going to haul their stolen goods for them.

An economist was on FOXNEWS earlier who said that states have erected such regulatory and environmental barriers that there's no incentive for oil companies to build refineries

Not the states per se, but the envirowhackos who built the barriers.

Wolf Blitzer on CNN saying that Gov. Blanco is "heartbroken". I guess that Wolf's way of saying the governor is shellshocked and out of her league.

Ugh, carvile now on(he's a Louisiana native).

Save the historic part of town if possible, forget the rest. It is just too damn low for a major coastal city.

There should have been provisions for getting the poor and infirmed out by the city. Everyone else should have had the sense to leave on their own.

If these people are trapped and they are taking necessary supplies like food, diapers, water, I am sure we can all understand. If they are ripping off beer,

I'd actually allow the beer as well-- at least that would be pure for drinking.

And whiskey has many medicinal purposes in an emergency.

Yes, she was very emotional. I thought she was going to break down during the news conference. This must be devastating for everyone involved, especially if they are looking at human loss. Prayers sent.

The governor and the Senator do not, individually or collectively, inspire confidence.

It's time to bring out your wallet for these people. I'm not sure if this is comparable to 9/11, but it's close to it as far as human misery & destruction.

I'm from Louisiana originally and it's hard for me to believe the state elected that lemmon.

The water is about 4 feet above sea level. The pic of the water next to the superdome is about 2 feet in elevation. If the street pic is Canal Street, that is at sea level. Something is wrong. The Mississippi must be pouring into the main NO bowl, that takes in most of the town, and Metaire (sp) to boot. I wonder how fast the water is moving?
