Catastrophic damage occurred to Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama as a result of Hurricane Katrina. Major bridges are destroyed. Mobile AL suffered its worst flooding in 90 years. In New Orleans, a large section of concrete levee broke last night. Water continues to rise, threatening, among many things, Tulane Hospital with 1000 patients. New Orleans officials: Do not attempt to return to the city at this time if you evacuated. It is too dangerous.

The Twin Spans bridge is completely gone. The Causeway is still there, but they are only allowing light emergency vehicles and *no* heavy trucks across - no civilian traffic. The Crescent Connection is the only open evac route out other than air.
I have been following their comments. The anchor doesn't expect to be back into New Orleans for weeks not days. WDSU sent a large contingent to Jackson so they could continue to report the news -- they came up Saturday.
They have no information from Slidel at all. If I spell names wrong, please forgive because I don't know any of these areas and have WDSU on minimize.
What he meant was . . . the French Quarter is just fine folks, who cares about the rest of the city. This has been the attitude of the press on this thing so far. The ignorance of the city and its surrounds is ASTOUNDING!!!!
WDSU.com is streaming video and reporting live.
God bless them for their efforts.
Great point - thanks.
Yes, my bad. THANK YOU for the link, and for all these threads!!!
I am quite certain that FEMA has effectively taken control of the power grid and that it has been isolated to provide maximum reliability to serviceable areas (outside the emergency zone). They will repair the lines from the outside in, moving emergency service centers forward towards the center as they are able to provide reliable power.
No but the water is gathering around the edges and canal street is now flooded

God help those people and protect them and the rescuers..
I saw that woman and her daughter too. I've wondered how she fared in all this. And Jackie who had such a lovely attitude and waited to get into the Super Dome for hours.
Are they getting any closer to getting them working so they can drain that rancid water??
And under Martial Law, can they force evacuation of everyone, so that disease doesn't take hold?
Great! Who are they turning their donations over to?
Good info - ty
I was just thinking about Jackie. I hope she is able to keep her wonderful resolve and share it with those in the Dome with her.
It was time for that last night.
I wonder what air traffic control is like over NO right now. Perhaps civilian aircraft could be used to fly in and airdrop supplies and survival equipment.
Has anyone heard about the northern part of Diamondhead? My mother lives in that community and they rode the storm out. We still haven't heard from her.
Yes, people by know should know what they are allowed to talk about on this thread. Let's keep them in line. Thanks
pumps are useless with the levee breaks
How many are in NO, 100,000 - 200,000? I'm afraid only the military could do that.
Wal-Mart is turning their donations over to the Salvation Army.
