Hurricane Katrina made landfall today at 6:10AM CDT, and she continues to drive northward into Mississippi and Alabama. Several local radar sites are down. Tornado and flash flood watches and warnings are widespread.
President Bush has declared major disaster areas, clearing the way for federal aid.

That question, I can't answer. The only thing I can think of is that their calls were supposed to be diverted to an automated announcement, but that your number was programmed by mistake. Their good fortune and your opportunity to be of service!
Thank you for the info and link.....I have such a sick feeling that my nieces have lost everything.....except their husbands and kids. That's whats important. Again, thanks.
What we're seeing now, the part that looks (at least to me) like snow, is water, right?
The USS Alabama is accounted for, correct?
That always makes things cheerful in events like these.
LE and other services don't have time for that. They need to be shot, make an example out of them.
Said this is the Metarie (sp?)area.
"I'm not sure I believe it, but the story was relayed more than once."
Beleave it. After a strom in my area a few years ago they put on a great show for the media, but My mother who was trapped in there little camp via a state of emegency could not even get anything to eat from them.
It is tough to watch..
Just a wobble away from complete disaster, instead of "mere" catastrophe.
The pictures are going to be worse tomorrow as they get into areas they can't get into now.
Fantastic! Prayers for them there.
Remember during 9/11..the employees of the convenience store near the WTC who wanted to charge the FDNY for bottled water?
Prayers for you and yours, alnick!
Oh no. Katrina was the strongest hurricane in recorded history they just said on FNC.

We are hearing the same. We have lots of pecan trees and they are self pruning. I am sure that I will be picking up limbs for a while. We could use a new roof on the garage, but do you think that a storm would blow the stupid thing off.
Unbelievably- YES.
AND- listening to Bill O'R...he had a fellow on discussing how many WEEKS it will be before all that water gets pumped out...
You are in my prayers.....I wish I could do more.
The reason they had to do that was because the British started bitching when they gave it away for free. The British Red Cross was charging their troops so the American Red Cross was force to do it so British Morale would not be hurt.
My father also did not like to have to pay for things from the Red Cross during WWII. At least the doughnut dollies did leave compounds and go to a few LZ's during Vietnam. Of course some of these girls along with other women in Vietnam went home rich. So apparently they charged for everything in addition to the donuts. But on the other hand, they weren't back in the States burning American flags with their draft dodging current boy friends.
