What they could use, once they pump the water out, is large magnets to sweep the streets of roofing nails.

Good Lord, you're right in the path of the center of the thing! Be careful up there. I went through Jackson the day after the tornado a few years ago. It took my breath away.

Blanco on CNN now. She said the I-10 bridge between New Orleans and Slidell is out.

Thank you, sweetie, for the ping. I had to get away from the computer for a while, everything was getting to me. Still no word from any family; this may take days.

Since I haven't been on the threads, this may be a repeat. But we heard on our local tv news that the I-10 twin spans in Slidell are under water.

If I was homeless and hungry after a disaster, I'm sure I'd accept a sandwich and a bed from Michael Jackson if he offered them.

"Amazing footage from the WDSU link - Coast Guard rescuing people from rooftops!"

doesn't look like much significant wind damage to residential structures.

Flooding is spotty.

We've had scattered thunder storms with rain that is strong enough to make you need to pull off the road for a couple of days.....Looks like this will just add to it.

"I do not like or trust the Red Cross. There are plenty of other volunteers out there as well."

The red cross is saying "don't forget to send us lots of money"

What they actually do with it...beats me.

30 35 mile winds with 40 to 60 mile wind gusts. Possible 2 to 5 inches of rain. I think Lelan Stattom said east of nasville would see less rain than the west. Possible tornados and thunderstorms.

How much gas gauging can we expect from this storm? I see it everyday in NJ. I work in NJ and live in NY. NJ gas is always 30-40 cents less than NY gas. Funny that this summer, the difference has dropped to 10 to 15 cents. I still buy in NJ because it's still less (they can't raise it to NY levels or they would lose the NYer consumer) but the gauging is obvious.

Thats what I am saying, it was a Cat 4 when it hit NO

I am trying to catch up a bit here, but didn't the eye wall go to the east of NO by a slim margin?

"Red Cross has burnt its bridges with more than one of us, I see..."
You betcha. There are a lot of us, but only a small number of us have the backbone to say so.

I'll take the Salvation Army any day. I remember them putting a truck at Northridge Mall, here in Milwaukee, the day after Hurricane Andrew. The driver said when the truck is full they will drive to Florida and distributor the goods to any and all.

I am very wary of the Red Cross and other agencies that will take only cash and won't be bothered with material goods.
