any word on Texas Conservative's sister in law? I pray all there are ok, and assume those in the hospitals, especially, will be ok .. anxious to hear.

Yeah, and no reporters set themselves up there.

The closest was Cantore in Gulfport who is largely incommunicado (but physically alright, apparently.)

Elevation map of New orleans:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/graphic/2005/08/29/GR2005082900046.html

An hybrid satellite photo/elevation map of new orleans that describes how Hurricane Betsy would have effected new Orleans. Much of the flooding pattern is similar.
http://www.nola.com/hurricane/images/goingunder_jpg.jpg (Large file)
This map's estimated flooding levels for Metaire and central New Orleans are similar to what has occured. Simlar, not exactly the same.

I just saw this on streaming TV:
Route 10 overpass of Spain St. Area between Florida Ave and N. Clairborne, and Elysian Fields Ave and Franklin Ave, appears entirely flooded up to first story eaves. From live stream of WDSu channel 6.

Unconfirmed anonymous posts I've read on other sites say there is ~5 feet of fllod waters in low areas Harvey/Gretna due to pump failure.

I hope all those affected have ridden out the brute of this storm. I'm not much of a man of prayer, but you all are in my thoughts.

Do you foresee this one being called a Cat 5 after the fact Like Andrew? The pressure and surge seems to support it.

CNN: Gulfport: Interstate is impassable, littered with all sorts of household debris (refrigerators, etc.), downtown was at a time under 12' of water, 2+ miles of town is still flooded, devastating damage(according to the reporter), several rescues, looters already striking.

If I never see another talking wet head in a hurricane, it will be too soon.

I doubt you'll see the extreme wind damage to well-constructed homes like you saw in Cutler Ridge in Andrew.

However, the swath of severe wind damage is much wider and the surge damage in dollar value is going to be the largest in US history by a large margin.

I'm praying for your family, my friend.

"I pulled up the Atlanta radar, and it was crystal clear."

NOAA's Georgia map has been "Temporarily Unavailable" until just now. And I don't think the current clear image is valid either.
