I doubt you'll see the extreme wind damage to well-constructed homes like you saw in Cutler Ridge in Andrew.
However, the swath of severe wind damage is much wider and the surge damage in dollar value is going to be the largest in US history by a large margin.

Andrew was able to keep most of its strength across the whole peninsula, largely thanks to the continued inflow from 3 quads and quick movement. It also managed to find a lot of housing divisions...
It's tough to say exactly what surface winds were at landfall, that pressure was super low though. It might have been a touch less windy this go around, but at those speeds it doesn't really matter.
The surge appears to be quite amazing. I think that region of the GOM is one of the most susceptible to big surge.
It will easily become the costliest in history. Death toll could also be a bit higher than we are used to with these things, I fear.
