LIBERTY, Ohio -- An unusual and noisy mystery has people in a small town north of Middletown on edge, worried and asking questions, News 5s Brain Hamrick reported.
Liberty, Ohio, is a quiet little community, except for one thing -- the scream.
Jamie Young told Hamrick she heard it while she and her husband were walking one evening.
It scared me. I didnt want to finish my walk, Young said.
But instead of running into her house, she said she recorded the noise and sent a tape to the local newspaper.

I've made that same sound while sitting in Los Angeles traffic. Serious!
Seriously, it sounded like a sick or wounded dog to me. I was trying really hard to be scared but it simply sounds like an animal.

still sounds like a wolf to me
"Attaboy, Luther!"
I wonder if it has anything to do with these posters being put up in town?

Cougar mating scream. House cats also scream but it doesn't stand the hair on the back of your neck in quite the same way.
I'm gonna have to agree with Concentric Circles on this one... check out these sounds I found at a Cougar/Mountain Lion/Puma website...
These sounds are loud, so make sure your speakers are turned down. I don't wanna cause anyone to get scared for nothing.
Hear the screams of two female mountain lions in estrous
Hear the long-distance calls of a female mountain lion

Urban folks exist in an artificial reality, urban folks are, therefore, wonderfully fun to play with. It is more fun, by far, than torturing roaches.
I attended Miami University, Oxford, Ohio -- not too far from Liberty. Been there!
All I can accurately relate to you is that if you lived in Liberty, you would scream, too!!!!
And, folks, that is a Saturday Night Truism! **S**
It's mothman. He is migrating westward now into Ohio.
It's Bigfoot, of course.
Many many years ago one of my friends in town had a really good hi-fi record player in which he had rigged outside speakers. So for some fun, we cranked it up and I put on a Walt Disney halloween record of movie sound effects.
One loud scream from the record player and we shut it off fast and watched the fun and never said a word. It wasn't even halloween.
A screech owl makes an ungodly sound that seems to come out of nowhere.
Peacock(s)?
Very rare possibility.
Mountain lions have been moving east from the western range (about 50-100 are in southwest Florida but the large populations are out west).
However, the reported sightings have not mentioned Ohio. There was a sighting in Michigan and Illinois.
In Florida here, the mountain lions (actually Florida panthers) are confined to the Everglades/ SW Florida. There have been some sightings as far north as Orlando. A friend that lives on the east side of Orlando (a bit too far east to be called a suburb) and in a rural area claims they have been hearing a panther scream periodically. They took a photo of an Eastern Diamondback rattlesnake that had to be 10 foot long that was sunbathing across the full length of their driveway, and I would not be surprised if a panther made their property home also.
"Shh. Listen. Do you smell that?"
Thanks for the ping! "Scream Heard In Liberty!"
