Scream Baffles Ohio Town

POSTED: 6:27 pm EDT August 19, 2005
UPDATED: 10:25 am EDT August 20, 2005

LIBERTY, Ohio -- An unusual and noisy mystery has people in a small town north of Middletown on edge, worried and asking questions, News 5’s Brain Hamrick reported.

Liberty, Ohio, is a quiet little community, except for one thing -- the scream.

Jamie Young told Hamrick she heard it while she and her husband were walking one evening.

“It scared me. I didn’t want to finish my walk,” Young said.

But instead of running into her house, she said she recorded the noise and sent a tape to the local newspaper.

Sounds like what happens to the offspring of a Jehovah's Witness and a Unitarian,....he goes around the neighborhood knocking on doors for no reason at all.

You know you could be right. I does sound like an elephant. Some kids out late at night with one of those electronic megaphones perhaps.

Beat me to it. I had a cougar couple years ago, killing my animals, thought it was bobcats. My neighbor killed the mountain lion while it was strolling off my place in mid-day.

Which got me to researching them - old Texas history is replete with nape-hair-raising accounts of the puma scream. I never saw or heard it, wish I had.

After decades of running hound dogs, I reckon I could go to town, do a little bit of judicious baying, and send a whole bunch of them to hiding under the bed. Ghost, my hiney, some old Redneck is just having some fun, with the city slickers.
