Here's what someone just wrote in the redstate.org comments:

'An NYT article just posted agrees with you, Erick: "Republicans close to the White House said that a leading candidate to succeed Justice Sandra Day O'Connor was Judge Edith Brown Clement." Goes on to say that she has "an edge."'

Willie he has the votes already to get CAFTA passed.

So he traded away SCOTUS to get more CAFTA votes anyway.
As long as he's trading away our country, he might as well kill two birds with one stone.

I do not believe Bush is rushing to a meeting with Specter to choose a SCOTUS nomination

Spectre is Chairman of the Judiciary Committee and would be contacted first whether Earl Warren or Clarence Thomas were going to be announced.

Many Freepers are trying to read tealeaves, and badly,

"I think it will be Judge Reinhold."

Hey, Judge Reinhold is actually a conservative Christian (one would assume GOP as well). Have you noticed he's gotten NO work in the past several years? Seems he's been blacklisted.

So, he really needs the job....

Yep, I've read that Edith Clement may go along too willingly with stare decisis. Would prefer Jones (or Owens, or Rogers Brown.)

Nonetheless, we may have Hurricane Edith tomorrow.

In case you missed it, I noticed that Mr and Mrs Ken Starr are listed as attending the fund raiser at the French Embassy being held for the Brady Coalition of gun grabbers.

Although my original post was made tongue in cheek, the truth is I have never met a Mormon I did not entirely respect for his honesty, hard work and commitment to community. I grew up in western New York State not far from Palmyra, home of the Mormon prophet Joseph Smith and site of his visions.

It may not but it would be great fun watching the libs dissolve.

Yes but too many folks believe that overturning R v Wade would make abortion illegal. It just moves back to the states and all 50 of them will have abortion of some kind and most of the blue states will have unlimited access.

I tend to be a big Bush guy, but if he nominates a non-conservative, my reaction will be the F word plus a couple more choice phrases, and utter shock. After that, I don't know what.

Edith Hollan Jones

Edith Hollan Jones, 56, has been a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit in New Orleans since 1985, having been nominated by President Ronald Reagan.

Jones was born in Philadelphia. She graduated from Cornell University in 1971 and from the University of Texas Law School in 1974. She was in private practice in Houston for 11 years and specialized in bankruptcy law.

Known as a strong and outspoken conservative, she has written opinions that called into question the reasoning behind the Roe v. Wade abortion ruling, has been an advocate for speeding up death penalty executions, and is a vocal proponent of "moral values." She also wrote a 1997 opinion throwing out a federal ban on the possession of machine guns and has been an advocate for toughening bankruptcy laws.

In a recent interview with the American Enterprise Institute, she bemoaned the Senate treatment of several controversial appeals court nominees. "Nominees are accused very unfairly of things that they didn't do," she said. "For someone like Judge [Charles W.] Pickering to be called a racist is a vile lie. For someone like Judge [William] Pryor to be attacked on the basis that he is a Catholic and therefore cannot judge cases fairly strikes at the heart of the notion of religious tolerance in our society. And the character assassination of Priscilla Owen reached unconscionable bounds."

They keep saying that they want an "orginalist" whatever that means I guess a "strict-constructionist" but when they actually get one many of their oxen are going to be gored.

Better to be gored by an "originalist" than by a unicorn emanating from the penumbra.

All 50 states have that now. 'Baby' steps.
