ABC News Radio-10:00 CST-Bush has decided on Supreme Court nominee. Spector called to WH tonight to discuss. Expected to be "mainstream".
Yup, Dubya appointed her to the fifth circuit in 2001. Her writings are too sketchy to chance a SCOTUS seat on. Edith Jones is the much better choice and the irony is delicious. Dubyas Dad chose Souter over Edith Jones back in the day. Jones is well qualified, a rock ribbed conservative jurist with 20 years on the Fifth Circuit and a very nice view to overturning the garbage that Harry Blackmun and friends spewed forth in Roe. My kind of gal.
Nah. It's a woman. Laura done said so...:-)
That background would be helpful for overturning U.S. legal precedent in favor of following WTO regulations.
Not until we see the smoke...
or at least until the sh!t hits the fan.
Sounds like Edith Clement is being seriously looked at.
And, the attacks are starting. After reading only praise for her the past couple days, there are now attacks starting to form on this thread saying she is "not conservative."
The dynamics of people's interaction is fascinating.
Until there was serious chance she was going to be picked, nobody said a peep but she would be a great pick.
Now that it looks like she is seriously in the running here, people are suddenly asking if she is conservative.
Well, where were you yesterday, you gadflies? Where were you criticizing her record before?
I frankly don't know what her record is, but I would have thought I would have seen some criticism on here when she was a dark horse candidate if there was something to be concerned about.
You are the first freeper I've seen come out and say that except me.
Damn straight....there should be no quotas for court appointments...just who's the best conservative
I guess you don't remember Specter during the Thomas confirmation? His questioning of Anita Hill was relentless.
You think someone who would add books to the Bible and lame books, at that can be trusted not to add provisions to the Constitution?
Yikes.
It may not but it would be great fun watching the libs dissolve.
Will the judiciary committee forgo their August vacations?
Most of her rulings have to do with Maritime law.
They were too busy going after Gonzales, that was not to be appointed.
Do they allow abortions at sea?
Is she old?
Anybody know anything about Edith Clement?
Ask and ye shall receive:

Edith Brown Clement, 57, is a judge on the New Orleans-based U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit.
Clement was nominated by President George H.W. Bush to serve as a judge on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana in 1991 and was elevated to her current post by the current President Bush in 2001.
Clement, a graduate of the University of Alabama and Tulane University Law School, worked as a lawyer in private practice in New Orleans for 16 years before beginning her tenure on the federal bench. She specialized in civil litigation involving maritime law, representing oil companies, insurance companies and the marine services industry in cases before federal courts. She is a member of the Federalist Society, an influential conservative legal organization.
ROTFL!!!! An excellent question...:-)
Janet Reno (unless it's a woman).
Her written record is very sparse al la Souter. Like Souter she has spent most of her time as Distrcit Judge, thus no written record. I have and will again criticize the appointment of question marks to the SCOTUS by the Bush family.
I think Dubya has learned from his Dad's mistakes.
