I was looking at the WBAP website, and noticed that, on their job board, they are advertising for a talk show host, 6 pm - 9 pm.
WBAP is the 50,000 watt Dallas/Ft. Worth AM station which hosts Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Paul Harvey, Jerry Doyle, and was where Mike Gallagher worked when he was just a local talk show host.
Here's the direct link:
the audience for this station is huge (they are located in Arlington, near Ft WorthThose would be the studio facilities, the transmitter facilities/tower are in the E/SE quadrant of Tarrant county. At one time, before DFW airport came into being, that was where WBAP's transmitter site was located ...
Well, I sent in my resume last night. Here's hoping.
Wishing you good luck :)
Laura Houston still does Dallas reports, and her husband does FW.
I think Dick was rotary wing, but then I moved to Ohio in 1990. They were the best.
Absolutely would be the perfect choice.
When you go for the interview, you'll notice the abscence of a 1/2 wave vertical radiator (about 600' or 192 degrees electrical length to be specific) anywhere near the studios. The studios of WBAP (and KSCS) moved east from where they were on Broadcast Hill (3900 Barnett or so) to Arlington; at this new location it almost straddles the county line.
The transmitter facility is SE of Fort Worth in SE Tarrant county.
See?
* Some of the lowered-power mom and pop operations may be co-located, but with the plethora of STL options open today this doesn't have to be the case as it once was ...
No, I know that most studios aren't co-located with their transmitting antenna. However, based on the incorporated lines of Arlington, I think that antenna is still within city limits. If that map you posted is where the antenna is located, it looks like Arlington to me.
In any case, it can't be more than 10-15 miles away from the studio, and if farther west than the studio, it only makes my point stronger, in that the WBAP listening range extends from that point all the way east past Tyler even in the daytime.
I live in College Station, about 200 miles or so away, and still listen to WBAP. I can catch it all the time whereas the Houston stations are static always.
(And I have been back to amusing myself with my first love again this year. Here's the latest: Sealed For Your Protection)
Wow....how did you learn how to do work like that? That was really good. You have a great camera presence as well.
Awwww Comon Anna! I know youre to pretty for radio but we need you here in TX L0L
That was a great new Unspun!
Put working with Dennis Prager and Mark Steyn on your resume ;)
Congrats on your naturalization as well.
You were more American as an immigrant than most born here.
We are proud to have you as a citizen.
Best wishes to you
how did you learn how to do work like that?Practice, and the generosity of others.
I did a feature-length documentary in '99, so these latest shorts, "Boomerang" at five minutes and "Sealed" at twelve, are much less intimidating. (Tho' I'm probably going feature-length again, or close to it, next.)
I also have great family and friends who donate time and effort to shoot and edit. These "mini-rants" of mine wouldn't be realized without them.
But, in this day and age, the only thing that stops anyone from doing this kind of stuff is failure to believe in one's own vision. The technology required is abundant, and can be affordable. What's tougher to come up with is confidence in, and commitment to, one's own idea. I've been blessed to have people around me who said, "Yes! It's hilarious! Do it!"
Thank you for your encouraging words.
...we need you here in TX L0LAnd you'll have me regardless. I'm moving to Austin in a week!
And thank you for the congrats, and the sweet words. I'm very glad to be here.
Turns out Gary McNamara's still around on WBAP. He has become the new permanent co-host on the Midnight Trucker show. That would be a fun gig for a radio host, but I wonder if it's considered a demotion. There are a lot more ears listening from 6 to 9.
AI realized that Todd was just a fill in, as Gary is on the Trucking show. I doubt that it is a cut in pay, as it is a national show. I really like him alot more than Joe Kelly.
Me, too. Joe annoyed me sometimes, but Gary's a really good guy. I wish him well, even if I won't be able to hear him much now.
He's in Texas and can do a remote if the studio is too far away.
One of the benefits of no being able to sleep the night through.
