There has been an explosion at Aldgate East underground station in London, causing the closure of the entire Tube network.
There are also reports that a second incident took place at Edgware Road station in north west London.
The Aldgate East blast was caused by "some kind of power surge", according to Tube infrastructure company Metronet, which is responsible for maintaining the Metropolitan line.
A spokesman said: "We don't know the extent of the problem yet."
A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We have just sent some resources out to the scene."
British Transport Police confirmed that there are "walking wounded" and said paramedics have responded to one report of a person classed as "life at risk".
"It's chaos, with people trying to work out what has happened," said a spokesman.
"All we know at the moment is that staff reported a loud bang at 8.49am. No one is sure what caused an explosion, but it is thought it could have been a collision, a power cut, or a power cable problem."
One witness said the packed underground train he was on was 200 metres from Kings Cross when there was a huge flash.
The train stopped and people were using umberellas to smash windows of the trains. Passengers were led out of the train by underground staff.
He added people were milling around Kings Cross covered in soot.

Yes, four bombs. I think part of the confusion was that some of the reports were about an event *between* two stations, and somehow that was interpreted as events *at* two stations... and so on.
I wonder about the bus bomb. I would bet that it was supposed to be on a train as well, and for some reason the perp couldn't get there and decided on the bus as a secondary target.
Any word on whether these were suicide bombers or just abandoned packages? If its the latter... we've got perps to locate and neutralize.

No, Arab's is correct. Just because an Arab claims to not be a Muslim doesn't mean he is not. Like someone said before, not all Muslims (Arabs) are terrorists but all terrorists are Muslims (Arabs). If we make a few mistakes and ship out a few innocents then too bad.

does anyone have the London Mayor's comments?
I don't know his politics but I do know the speech was Churchil-esque.

This is why I support wholeheartedly "RealID" and the Patriot Act, and enhancements to it, and in addition believe all judges who are enabling terrorists getting a break ought to be impeached. Our most trusted officials, our police, are stating they need these tools. We must give them.
None of that does a damn bit of good if our borders are wide open.
Don't buy into the politicians beliefs of "Our anti-terrorist legislation failed? Then the only solution is more anti-terrorist legislation!!!"

I think I heard them say it may have been a suicide bomber that blew on the bus, but no confirmation on that.

Thanks, I was just going off the headline and what I heard this morning on TV before leaving the house. How many bombs were there? Any update on number of casualties (although that will probably change quite a bit in the next few days)? From the emergency services briefing at 3 pm local (10 am Eastern) -
- 4 bombs total (3 in subways, 1 on a bus - could we have a title update please?).
- 33 confirmed dead from the subway blasts, an unknown number from the bus blast.
- 300 injured.
- Nobody left trapped in the subways.
