There has been an explosion at Aldgate East underground station in London, causing the closure of the entire Tube network.
There are also reports that a second incident took place at Edgware Road station in north west London.
The Aldgate East blast was caused by "some kind of power surge", according to Tube infrastructure company Metronet, which is responsible for maintaining the Metropolitan line.
A spokesman said: "We don't know the extent of the problem yet."
A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We have just sent some resources out to the scene."
British Transport Police confirmed that there are "walking wounded" and said paramedics have responded to one report of a person classed as "life at risk".
"It's chaos, with people trying to work out what has happened," said a spokesman.
"All we know at the moment is that staff reported a loud bang at 8.49am. No one is sure what caused an explosion, but it is thought it could have been a collision, a power cut, or a power cable problem."
One witness said the packed underground train he was on was 200 metres from Kings Cross when there was a huge flash.
The train stopped and people were using umberellas to smash windows of the trains. Passengers were led out of the train by underground staff.
He added people were milling around Kings Cross covered in soot.

How many Germans and Japanese were incarcerated in the '40s?
How many Muslim Americans in the 21st so far? How many British Muslims? Today is a result of failure to eliminate the terrorists and the ways they communicate with each other.
The Patriot Act is a NEEDED and WISE part of the effort. Your denial of that is simply foolish.
It needs to be EXPANDED in a major way, and every patriotic American will trust our military and police more than they trust the barbarians. Stop supporting them.
Most al-Qaeda cells discovered in Europe have links to the Algerian Salafist Group for Prayer and Combat, known by its acronym GSPC, an organization suspected in several terrorist plots in Europe and the United States.
A splinter group of the Armed Islamic Groups (GIA), GSPC was created under the initiative of bin Laden by GIA emir Hassan Hattab in 1998. A year earlier, the GIA had started losing foreign support due to its massive slaughter of Algerian civilians. Bin Laden, who had previously supported the GIA, financed this new Salafist organization which would distinguish itself from the then discredited GIA in order to continue to fight the "jihad" in Algeria.
The GSPC is accused of planning attacks during the soccer World Cup held in Paris in 1998 and against the Strasbourg Christmas market and cathedral in 2000.
"GSPC remains a grave threat in Europe. There are networks linked to al-Qaeda and GSPC in England, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Spain ... This network of North Africans will continue to be a threat to international security in the short and long term," explains researcher Jonathan Schanzer.
According to Kohlmann, the Algerian branch is "still there but not as influential" today. More recent organizations like the Moroccan Islamic Combatant Group (GICM), "the children of the GIA and GSPC", learned from their predecessors' mistakes and are now taking the lead of the terrorist network in the region. The GICM was involved in the terrorist attacks in Casablanca in May 2003 and Madrid in March 2004.

The group is now part of the global al-Qaeda nebula. Recently, it re-expressed its ties to al-Qaeda by vowing allegiance to al-Zarqawi. In a statement on January 24, GSPC leader Abu Musab Abdel Wadoud expressed his congratulations to al-Zarqawi in response to the latter's message to international al-Qaeda "affiliate" organizations, among which the GSPC was included.
FoxNews/SkyNews reporter: 45 unofficial death toll.
That's one thing about FR, the thread never stays on the subject...
Sometimes it is a good thing, other times...
Thanks for that, I was worried about her
Move love from the Religion of Peace......
Up to 1,000 injured.
Strong statement. And true.
This almost certainly has nothing to do with the Olympics -- an operation with this level of sophistication had to have been planned a long time in advance.
"These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as freedom should not be highly rated."I am always amazed at how so many writings by mere "colonists" have held up so well over the centuries.

Well said, from a fellow Hoosier
Sorry, but they can't sit back and watch London and Madrid in agony with cold eyes and escape the imputation of at least mental complicity. If they remain silent just because the attackers are Muslim, then that is a form of support.

Exactly. Anyone, not just Muslims, who fail to condemn this, and who obstructs any efforts to capture and kill the barbarians, needs to be jailed.
Livingstone attacks President Bush: *BUSH IS CORRUPT* Thema: Reality-International London
Mayor Ken Livingstone has launched an astonishing attack on US President George W Bush, calling him *corrupt*.
Mr Livingstone made his attack during an address to schoolchildren in a debate on the Iraq war.
He said he would get as much pleasure from Mr Bush being forced out of office as he had done from the downfall of former Iraq leader Saddam Hussein...
The outburst was immediately criticised by London politicians who fear a negative effect on the mayor's efforts to attract American tourists here.
Mr Livingstone was answering questions on the Iraq war and other subjects during a two-hour meeting with 200 schoolchildren at City Hall on Thursday morning.
'Red mist' After making a pointed reference to Mr Bush, he was asked by Channel 4 broadcaster Krishnan Guru-Murthy, who was chairing the meeting, to explain his making a personal attack on the US president when he disliked answering personal questions himself.
The mayor said: "I think George Bush is the most corrupt American president since Harding in the Twenties.
"He is not the legitimate president."
He later added: "This really is a completely unsupportable government and I look forward to it being overthrown as much as I looked forward to Saddam Hussein being overthrown."

The emergency services will be giving some sort of update at 3pm local time apparently. That's in half an hour realtime.
And Al-Qaida has also threatened any American contractors working in Iraq. When I'm on R&Rs in Europe, I have to lie if someone asks me what I do for a living.
I had to grab my passport out of a hotel receptionists's hands in Italy last year because she began flipping though the pages to see where I'd been. I put it to the first page, smiled and said "This is the part you need to see." You never know who might want to sell that kind of information and you can't be too careful when it comes to those thugs.
Why fight terrorist in one place and give them our tax money in another? (Palestine Authority).
And different rules apply when there has been a Congressional Declaration of War;not the least of which is everyone is put on notice that things are different now, sacrifices will have to be made, and spies, traitors and saboteurs will be shot.
I assume that any muslim is a terrorist sympathizer.
