There has been an explosion at Aldgate East underground station in London, causing the closure of the entire Tube network.
There are also reports that a second incident took place at Edgware Road station in north west London.
The Aldgate East blast was caused by "some kind of power surge", according to Tube infrastructure company Metronet, which is responsible for maintaining the Metropolitan line.
A spokesman said: "We don't know the extent of the problem yet."
A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We have just sent some resources out to the scene."
British Transport Police confirmed that there are "walking wounded" and said paramedics have responded to one report of a person classed as "life at risk".
"It's chaos, with people trying to work out what has happened," said a spokesman.
"All we know at the moment is that staff reported a loud bang at 8.49am. No one is sure what caused an explosion, but it is thought it could have been a collision, a power cut, or a power cable problem."
One witness said the packed underground train he was on was 200 metres from Kings Cross when there was a huge flash.
The train stopped and people were using umberellas to smash windows of the trains. Passengers were led out of the train by underground staff.
He added people were milling around Kings Cross covered in soot.
We should be playing the WTC bombing pictures every week.
People forget so easily it is amazing...
Absolutely. The announcement yesterday was probably a trigger for terrorist cells in any of the cities.
I just looked this up on the Madrid bombings
07:39 - Three bombs explode on train 17305 by Téllez street, 500 meters (547 yards) short of entering Atocha station. Seconds later, four bombs explode on train 21431 on track 2 inside Atocha station.
07:41 - Two bombs explode on train 21435 at El Pozo del Tío Raimundo station.
07:42 - A bomb explodes on train 21713 at Santa Eugenia station
9/11 attacks:
8:45 a.m. (all times are EDT): A hijacked passenger jet, American Airlines Flight 11 out of Boston, Massachusetts, crashes into the north tower of the World Trade Center, tearing a gaping hole in the building and setting it afire.
I had not realized the time.
So was there a "threat" against London today? I don't think so. Not 9/11 either.
They don't broadcast these acts in advance..sheesh!
sw
That's probably the most "scheduled" part of a day and most favorable to getting into a crowd relatively unnoticed. For all we know, a typical suicide bomber has been making a friend on a bus route to pull this off when he gets the call.
Seems to me that this ends any plan of TB to step down early..he's got to stay
or at least a BUMP:
Referring to Gitmo:*The Mayor of London, Ken Livingston said they pose no threat to our security and he hopes the prisoners would go on to sue the US authorities for years of detention and abuse. Livingston added, I hope one day President Bush and those who authorised this use of low-level torture will face prosecution themselves.*
There is ,and was, no need to trash our Constitutional rights as those rights were understood by everyone for 150 years.
It is the "liberal judges and ACLU" who have turned the Constitution upside down finding a right to kill babies but denying the right to defend life.It is those people who deny the God of our forefathers and who engineered the removal of Him from public life whilst demanding tolerance for the god of a murderous cult.
I still don't see the borders tightened by the Patriot Act nor how tons of confiscated nail clippers and lavish Washington TSA offices and parties have made us safer.
America soldiers, sailors, and police have long known who the enemy are and what needs to be done, it is the politicians who prevented the military from being effectice in Korea,Vietnam,Iran,Lebanon,Somalia,Afghanistan and Iraq.
Our grandfathers defeated the armies of Hitler,Mussolini, and Tojo without a Patriot Act.
Yeah. All the "chatter" is supposed to mean anything? You're right. They don't broadcast these events. They just wait for the signal.
Good time for a quote from a Mel Gibson film......
-Our Father in Heaven, as we go into battle, every soldier among us will approach you each in his own way, our enemies too, according to their own understanding and will ask for protection and victory, and so we bow before your infinite wisdom. We offer our prayers as best we can. Yes, and one more thing, dear Lord. About our enemies-ignore their heathen prayers and help us blow those little bastards straight to hell. Amen.
Mel Gibson - -quote from: the movie "We Were Soldiers"
Well, unfortunately, a hell of a lot of Muslims stay silent about this kind of thing -- implying agreement with objectives and methods.
Sorry, but they can't sit back and watch London and Madrid in agony with cold eyes and escape the imputation of at least mental complicity. If they remain silent just because the attackers are Muslim, then that is a form of support.
No sale. They have got to do better in responding to these atrocities, or suffer the just animadversions of the aggrieved parties.
And I still want that fat Palestinian cow who danced and sang and ululated when the World Trade Center fell.
"Democrats, with help of the MSM, Will try spinning the London bombings"
The DUmmies already are, saying this illustrates the failure of the "let's fight them over there" approach.
I sincerely doubt this attack can be linked with the per chance fact that they got the Olympics in 2012. More likely it was related to G-8, or my favorite theory, it was just chosen as an easy to remember date. If you were to get a crew of ignorant individuals to jump on busses and blow themselves up wouldn't you choose an easy date to remember? The time? Oh, Rushhour. 7-7, 8:50. The target, UK, not G8, not Olympics, just downtown London much like Madrid or NYC.
I wish I could do screen caps. Katie spent extra-special time in make-up this morning and has an inner glow which her "conerned words" cannot cover up.
