Many adults in the United States believe their government should begin to implement an exit strategy in Iraq, according to a poll by Gallup released by CNN and USA Today. 59 per cent of respondents believe the U.S. should withdraw some or all troops from Iraq, a 10 per cent increase since February.
The coalition effort against Saddam Hussein’s regime was launched in March 2003. At least 1,700 American soldiers have died during the military operation, and more than 12,800 troops have been injured. 56 per cent of respondents believe the war was not worth it.
Iraqi voters elected a transitional legislative branch in January. On May 3, the new administration headed by prime minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari was sworn in. Since the new government was announced on Apr. 28, more than 900 people have been killed in a variety of attacks.
On Jun. 7, U.S. president George W. Bush outlined his strategy on Iraq, saying, "We’re training Iraqi forces so they can take the fight to the enemy, so they can defend their country. And then our troops will come home with the honour they have earned." 56 per cent of respondents say they would be upset if Bush decides to send more troops to Iraq, a 16 per cent increase since September.

I think its the biggest mistake we could possibly make!!! Withdrawing troops from iraq at this point of time will result in utter chaos and confusion!!! Iraqi troops are hardly well trained to deal with such a situation and terrorists will soon gain the upper hand....... At best it will result in a civil war between shias and sunnis and worst-- Iraq will become the new base for al-qaeda and terror groups!!!!
Agreed. These kinds of polls are useless and stilted toward desired answers. The only poll that really counts is the one held on election day, and staying there and fighting it out won hands down.
This is misleading. On the Gullap poll, not more than half were for complete withdraw, even some asked for a decrease of troops.
If you'd bothered to read the article, you'd know this was our troops in Iraq and those brave guys, well, whatever method they want to use gets a salute from me. And don't forget a significant percent of our troops over there are gals, and maybe they prefer that too? You don't speak for them, missy!

Too soon and all will have been for nothing. Maybe in about a year when the Iraqi government is stronger we can start to pull out.

Another polls says that 70% of americans say we should stay there:

I hope the government learns from these polls and starts using poll data to govern. It is clear that a small number of randomly selected individuals knows more about what is right for the country than our elected leaders. /sarcasm
Come on, give me a break. Let W drive the bus, and if you don't like where it is going, change drivers. You get a chance to do this every four years. Why not ask a bunch of randomly selected individuals if bedrooms should be white or off white?
The MSM wants our troops out of Iraq before we can claim unmitigated success -- so they can write about how we failed in our mission for years to come.

If you put the "increase troops" the "keep troops level" and the "withdraw some" respondents together, 70% favor staying in Iraq.

IMO, polls are worthless, meaningless, and counter-productive-- the only "poll" that ought to count are elections. If you care enough to register, and go down and vote, your actions mean something.
An opinion, as expressed by any poll is essentialy meaningless- it costs nothing, can be changed in an instant, and hence has little, if any, worth or value.
That said, it is no surprise any poll on this subject looks like this one- the public has been bombarded with negativity, and good news has been unmentioned by the ever-more-worthless Media Hive.
