May 23 issue - Did a report in NEWSWEEK set off a wave of deadly anti-American riots in Afghanistan? That's what numerous news accounts suggested last week as angry Afghans took to the streets to protest reports, linked to us, that U.S. interrogators had desecrated the Qur'an while interrogating Muslim terror suspects. We were as alarmed as anyone to hear of the violence, which left at least 15 Afghans dead and scores injured. But I think it's important for the public to know exactly what we reported, why, and how subsequent events unfolded.

It's the principle. Don't think about the details -- look at the principle. Guns don't kill people; people kill people. That principle.
And just for the record, I think heads should roll at Newsweek. I'm just trying to get people to think. :-)
hey, did I already ask you if you ever worked at Wright-Patt? I was there for two years a while back doing some engineering.
See my previous post. And think much more abstractly. ;-)
Abstract thinking becomes more difficult as more beer is consumed. As it is 80 some degrees outside and hamburgers are on the grill here in Arizona, much beer has been consumed! ;-)
That's messed up.
You report the truth. The truth will always have consequences, that's part of life.
But if you report a lie that you made up or didn't bother to fact-check, then the consequences are on your head.
Yet you are trying to equate the two, as if telling the truth or a lie makes no difference if the outcome is the same.
That's a case of moral relativism gone wild.
Yep, that's the big question.
This piece is just a CYA piece. Does not sound very sincere -- just "Geez, we reported something and people died -- isn't that too bad"...
Sounds like Dan Rather's typewriter has found a new home...
LOL! You enjoy your beer, then. I assure you, that's more important than answering my abstract cyber-questions. :-)
Source?
They don't need no stinkin' sources! sarc.
go for it
Yeah, okay, so MSM got it wrong again. However, the Muslim community needs to take a collective chill pill (fat chance of that ever happening) Just how many American flags have they burned outright just because of their hatred of us? How many George Bush effigies? That's right..and WHERE'S the OUTRAGE OVER THAT? Where are the investigations, etc. etc. You get my drift. How dare the clerics give us three days to come up with an explanation. They've been waging holy war on us for far too long, this was just an excuse.
tisk, tisk.
No, I haven't been drinking.
But thanks for worrying. ;-)
Yes, remember when the pope was shot by a Muslim and all the Catholics rioted and killed innocent muslims?
Of course no one remembers that, because it didn't happen.
The Pope promptly forgave his attacker. Where are Muslim leaders condemning the violence and asking for peace while the charges are investigated?
Quite a contrast, no?
They should be run into bankruptcy for this stunt
They cost people their lives
And the sad part is ??
They have learned NOTHING from this
From another thread on this.
Do these idiots understand what's going on? This is not a game we're playing, peoples lives are at stake and the security of the country is a stake.
They should print a retraction and have it placed in EVERY paper in the Islamic world. Every if they do this (which I doubt they will) there are large numbers of Muslims who won't believe it. Osama has got to be smiling over this, nice fat present newsweek give him.
I tell you just how f...ing angry I am.
