Or conduct a running evacuation once a day. :)

Like mandatory remedial PT for the fat folks in the AF ...

There are various evacuation menus, I'm sure. One may be a cautionary (as this was) or a too late one where a shootdown would cause more damage than the crash or an "unknown substance" warning which would spread if everyone ran.

Just listen to directions as they are given and use common sense. I believe Senators all have designated places to spread them out.

I am always on the toilet when breaking news or earthquakes happen.

Uncanny. I guess that means we can use you as an early warning system?

I always have to ask myself: Is an earthquake imminent, or is that the burrito talking?

Maryland State Police has one man in custody in Frederick, MD, and are awaiting federal authorities.

It DOESN"T MATTER.

I read here he reportedly flew in from Pennsylvania. The poster wanted to ban takeoffs from within 50-100 miles of DC. Would that solve the problem?

"In my building, everyone - male or female - is encouraged to keep a pair of comfortable, sturdy walking shoes in their cubicle, mainly in case of earthquake, which might put down heavy debris and require people to walk home."

Smart move. Besides, I always hated watching movies that showed the female running in heels and invariably falling. :)

I can't imagine that anyone from the Lancaster area would not be familiar with the airspace, and the landmarks in that area. It is a beautiful clear day in DC, the pilot could clearly see the buildings in the area. If he flew into the "No Fly Zone" and then out, and then back in, I don't see how he can blame his instruments. He had to know where he was just by looking out the window.

And the pilot, I hope has been wrestled to the ground as well.

I just hope that they brought plenty of handy-wipes and fresh jumpsuit. Otherwise, it is going to be one long and stinky interview.

Ah... reminds me of the day I was on ALERT and told to fire up the engines because we had incoming nukes.

No questions asked - LOL...

AF Procedures have been changed a bit since then to alleviate a bit of unnecessary laundry.

Per CNN, "plane refused to engage in conversation with authorities."

"Supreme Court and Treasury Department also evacuated."

"One man in custody in Frederick, Maryland. Waiting for federal officials to arrive and interview pilot. Plane was in 'inner-most circle' of no-fly area."

Wolf just cut away from report when that remark came down. Hmmm...

The point is, don't let light aircraft of this type takeoff in the vicinity and that will reduce the possibility of them straying into the airspace around the WH. Is that so hard to understand?

Makes sense to me, or at least don't permit low level licensees to fly in that area. Make sure the pilots have commercial ratings.
And yes this pilot should get reamed. I've flown a Cessna 152 a few times, and from the get go, you were always tought to know where you are. And knowing where you are over DC has to be one of the easiest things to do. One of these times an accident will happen and people will die.
The F-16s are really there for show. If the pilot had wanted to get to a building, at 120kts he'd be there too quickly for jets to stop him. My guess is that there are several experts with MANPADs (stingers) on duty at any given time.

I know what you mean.

Sneakers are pretty much standard attire these days for everyone who rides the train to work. Once we get to the station, there's walking involved even if its just to a bus.
